BLOG TOUR: When You Come Back to Me by Emma Scott

From USA Today bestselling author comes the second book in the Lost Boys series of interconnected standalones. Holden and River's emotional and heart-wrenching journey to love, redemption, and their happy ever after.

When You Come Back To Me by Emma Scott is now live!

At Santa Cruz Central High School, they called them the misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos. But most of us knew them as the Lost Boys...

Holden Parish survived his parents' horrific attempts to make him "the perfect son." After a year's stint in a Swiss sanitarium to recover, he has vowed to never let anything--or anyone--trap him again. Brilliant but broken, he seeks refuge behind alcohol, meaningless sex, and uses his wicked sense of humor to keep people away. He only has to ride out one year in the coastal town of Santa Cruz with his aunt and uncle before he inherits his billions and can make his escape. Disappear.

Falling in love is not in the plans.

River Whitmore. Star quarterback of the Central High football team, Prom King, Mr. Popular, ladies' man. He leads the perfect life...except it's all a lie. His father has River's future in the NFL all planned out, while River's dream is to run the family business in the town that he loves. But his mother's illness is tearing the family apart and River is becoming the glue that holds them together. How can he break his father's heart when it's already shattering?

River's carefully-crafted faรงade explodes when he meets Holden Parish. A guy who dresses in coats and scarves year-round, drinks expensive vodka, and spends his free time breaking into houses for the fun of it. They're complete opposites. River seeks a quiet life, away from the spotlight. Holden would rather have dental surgery than settle down.

Holden's demons and River's responsibilities threaten to keep them apart, while their undeniable attraction crashes them together again and again, growing into something deep and real no matter how they resist.

Until one terrible night changes everything.

CHRISTY'S 5 STAR REVIEW

Emma Scott never ceases to amaze me with her talent. When You Come Back to Me was a phenomenal and emotional romance. This will definitely be on my top 2020 list.

When I read ‘The Girl in the Love Song’ I was so curious about all the lost boys, but honestly, I wanted River’s story more than anyones. There was just something about him that made me want to know more. It’s no surprise to me that he’s my favorite character of this series thus far. He’s such an amazing hero and the type of guy Holden needed.

River meets Holden when he starts at his high school during his senior year. Holden is unlike anyone River has ever met. He’s enigmatic, captivating, and no matter how hard he tries, River can’t stay away from him. These two couldn’t be more different but they are exactly what the other needs.
“What if we need each other? Maybe how fucking different we are works. Maybe we fill in the missing parts for each other. Ever think of that?”

Holden has an unimaginably difficult past that causes him to drink and sometimes act out. River is trying to be someone he’s not for his family. His life isn’t easy, but it’s a different kind of hard. Either way, these boys need each other desperately and the comfort and support they give one another is insurmountable. My heart broke for these two and all I wanted was to find their happy together. But that couldn’t happen until Holden could find and love himself.

This story was hard to read at times and Holden made some questionable choices but my goodness- that boy had been through so much you couldn’t even fault him for having cloudy judgment at times. River is the hero we all need. He’s supportive, loving, kind, and nonjudgmental. He’s loyal to a fault and was the absolute best. The end had me in tears. I was so happy I cried. I cry a lot because of sad things in books, but this book had me in the best kind of happy tears and I loved that ending so much.

This story is moving, evokes so much emotion, and though it had some heavy issues, it left me feeling happy and hopeful. Emma always writes the most epic romances and this was no exception. I loved it so much and I can’t wait to get to the final ‘Lost Boy’s’ romance!
“You deserve to be loved out loud.”

CHRISTY'S REVIEW:

The Chaos series is one of my favorite KA series and I was so excited to get a story about Dutch Black. I love his parent’s story and couldn’t wait to get more from him and the entire Chaos family. Add in that there was a good bit of Vance and Jules (my favorite Rock Chick couple) and I loved this one so much!

Dutch Black is all Chaos and always has been. The club and his brothers is the most important thing in his life, but right now he’s doing something on his own. He’s helping a kid who’s father was murdered. This is something that is near to him, as he lost his own father that way when he was a child.

Dutch meets Georgie while he’s in the middle of this mission and they don’t get off to the best start… but then they just click. Georgie decides she’s going to use her journalist contacts to help Dutch with this kid and they become a bit of a team, along with the help of some others.

I adored Dutch and Georgie together. I honestly only wish this was longer. I could see Dutch being my favorite brother if I would have had more time with him. This was a little long for a novella, but not near as long as KA’s normal books. Still, it had that old school KA feel that I love so much.

Wild Fire was an amazing addition to the Chaos series. Dutch was a big hearted alpha biker and Georgie was an independent fiery woman who was born to be an old lady- she just didn’t know it at first. This is one of my all time favorite MC romance series and I can’t recommend it enough. This particular book can be read as a stand-alone, but if you’ve read KA’s Chaos and Rock Chick series you’ll appreciate it all the more.

The Right Player by Kandi Steiner is LIVE!

The Right PlayerThe Right Player by Kandi Steiner

6266C25F_E260_4088_AB82_685E36F93560_IMG_8531
I never expected Belle Monroe.

Kandi Steiner is known for her angst filled books that are heavy with emotion, but sometimes I forget how well she does fun and lighter stories. I mean, this book has the sweetest and swooniest hero I've read about all year. Makoa is a guy you want to meet!

After reading 'The Wrong Game' last year, I was curious who would be paired with Gemma's maneater best friend, Belle. A guy like Makoa is just who she needs. You see, Mak and Belle both have a three date rule. But... and this is a big but... Belle only keeps a guy around for three dates, and Mak won't sleep with someone until three dates.

Belle had a bad experience with an ex in college and it put her off relationships. Mak has always been the nice guy put in the friend zone, but now that he's in the NFL he's the guy that girls want to use for fame/money/etc. So he keeps quiet about his job when he first meets Belle. Belle and Mak have fantastic banter and such a great connection. I mean, that Broadway date...swoon. That seriously seems like the most perfect date ever!

This story was so cute and fun, and it was mostly light but there were some secrets you were just waiting to come out. I was a bit nervous waiting for the other shoe to drop. I loved both Belle and Mak, though Mak was definitely my favorite. Like, could Kandi have written a more perfect guy (I mean, maybe Logan Becker but Mak is a close second). I seriously love the nice guy troupe and this one was great for me.

If you're looking for a romance that will sweep you off your feet, pick up The Right Player.
"You were worth the wait."

Review: Lies & Lullabies by Sarina Bowen

Lies & Lullabies (Hush Note, #1)Lies & Lullabies by Sarina Bowen

38A3B38A_9312_4515_9688_2E6E38972AA0_IMG_8332

I love Sarina Bowen's writing and was so excited to read a rockstar romance from her. While I liked this one a lot, there were some things I didn't love. Most of it is my own fault because I like to go into books by my favorites blind and I didn't read the synopsis, but here we are. This is one of those troupes that just almost never work for me so this is very much a ‘me’ thing and not necessarily the book. This one was good for me, but not a favorite.

Kira and Jonas spend one incredible summer together in May. They become close friends and by the end of the summer, they become more. Jonas has to go back to the west coast for his band and Kira goes back to her life as well, only to discover that her life will never be the same again.

It’s a funny thing about babies in books. I actually have zero issues with the surprise baby troupe, but that dang secret baby… unless there is a legit reason to keep a baby from their other parent it makes me want to scream. I’ll be honest here, I didn’t feel Kira’s reasoning had any merit at all and it took a bit of the enjoyment out of the read for me personally.

The kid in this book was so cute, and I’ll be honest here, I loved Kira’s brother Adam and if this was his book, I would have been so here for it. I kind of hope he gets his own story (or at least a novella) down the line because I adored him!

Sarina Bowen always writes engaging character driven stories and there was a lot about this book I liked! I especially loved the hero and I’m looking forward to reading about the other band members. If you’re looking for a sweet and steamy second chance romance, give this one a try.

Live! Tools of Engagement by Tessa Bailey + Review

In Tessa Bailey’s latest rom-com, two enemies team up to flip a house... and the sparks between them might burn the place down or ignite a passion that neither can ignore!

Hair, makeup, clothing, decor... everything in Bethany Castle's world is organized, planned, and styled to perfection. Which is why the homes she designs for her family's real estate business are the most coveted in town. The only thing not perfect? Her track record with men. She's on a dating hiatus and after helping her friends achieve their dreams, Bethany finally has time to focus on her own: flip a house, from framework to furnishings, all by herself. Except her older brother runs the company and refuses to take her seriously.

When a television producer gets wind of the Castle sibling rivalry, they’re invited on Flip Off, a competition to see who can do the best renovation. Bethany wants bragging rights, but she needs a crew and the only member of her brother's construction team willing to jump ship is Wes Daniels, the new guy in town. His Texas drawl and handsome face got under Bethany's skin on day one, but the last thing she needs is some cocky young cowboy in her way.

As the race to renovate heats up, Wes and Bethany are forced into close quarters, trading barbs and biting banter as they remodel the ugliest house on the block. It's a labor of love, hate, and everything in between, and soon sparks are flying. But Bethany's perfectly structured life is one kiss away from going up in smoke and she knows falling for a guy like Wes would be a flipping disaster.

Christy's Review:

I’ve enjoyed Tessa Bailey’s ‘Hot and Hammered’ series so much! I’m sad this is the last book of the series, but I really enjoyed it. A bit of enemies to lovers as well as the age gap… what’s not to love!

Bethany Castle is doing her own flip and she’s doing it without the help or support of her family’s business. She is sick of not being taken seriously and being made to feel like she’s only good for decorating. When she makes her stand, Wes follows along to help her. You can tell Wes has it bad for Bethany and she’s attracted to him too, but she’s older and doesn’t want to be interested in him.

“We can still pretend to hate each other, if it makes you feel better about accepting my help.” She brushed her hair back. “Who’s pretending?”

Wes may be in his early twenties, but he grew up a lot over the last year. He has temporary custody of his niece who’s in kindergarten and his pace of life has changed. He and Bethany have such a connection and so much chemistry but there is something holding her back. He just has to break through that barrier.

I loved the reality tv part of this book and the end left me with a giant smile. Bethany is a relatable character and I loved when she finally gave into Wes. He brought her out of her perfect facade and helped her to be her real and authentic self. That person is pretty great. Wes was fantastic and I adored him and the way he was with his niece. Also, with this being written by Tessa Bailey you know it was smoking hot!

If you’re looking for an enemies to lovers/rom-com that is funny, sexy, and has just enough feels, pick up Tools of Engagement.

Review: Well Played by Jen DeLuca

Another laugh-out-loud romantic comedy featuring kilted musicians, Renaissance Faire tavern wenches, and an unlikely love story.

Stacey is jolted when her friends Simon and Emily get engaged. She knew she was putting her life on hold when she stayed in Willow Creek to care for her sick mother, but it's been years now, and even though Stacey loves spending her summers pouring drinks and flirting with patrons at the local Renaissance Faire, she wants more out of life. Stacey vows to have her life figured out by the time her friends get hitched at Faire next summer. Maybe she'll even find The One.

When Stacey imagined "The One," it never occurred to her that her summertime Faire fling, Dex MacLean, might fit the bill. While Dex is easy on the eyes onstage with his band The Dueling Kilts, Stacey has never felt an emotional connection with him. So when she receives a tender email from the typically monosyllabic hunk, she's not sure what to make of it.

Faire returns to Willow Creek, and Stacey comes face-to-face with the man with whom she’s exchanged hundreds of online messages over the past nine months. To Stacey's shock, it isn't Dex—she's been falling in love with a man she barely knows.

Christy's Review:

It all started with a necklace.

After reading (and loving) 'Well Met' last year, I was so excited to get to Well Played. I liked Stacey a lot and couldn't wait to get her story. Though I didn't love this one quite as much as the first, it was still a great read!

If you've read 'Well Met' you remember Emily's friend and fellow tavern wench, Stacey. Stacey is still in the same small town she grew up in, even though she had dreams to work in fashion in the big city. Due to some family things, life took her in a different direction and she's mostly content. Mostly. She lives for the Renaissance Festival her small town puts on every summer. It's her favorite time of year. And for the last two years, she's had a casual thing with of the guys that travels from faire to faire.

After the season is over she decides to message the guy. This turns into almost an entire year of texting and emailing. Stacey is smitten. And she's counting down the days until she sees her old hookup, now friend in person. Only things don't go exactly as expected when they meet again for the first time. And that's all I'll say about that ;)

The hero of this book was great. So sweet and soft and I adored him. I liked Stacey a lot too and I think her story and path in life could be relatable to a lot of women. By the end, I was shouting 'you go girl' to her! This book made me so nostalgic for my Ren Faire days (this year is canceled in Ohio d/t Covid...) and I love all the scenes that take place there. I absolutely love the setting of these books and I can't wait for the next one in the series (Mitch and April- gah! Give me!!)

If you're looking for a sweet, steamy, and fun read check this one out. It does have some pretty blatant (view spoiler) going on, but for some reason it didn't bother me much. I enjoyed the heck out of this one and I'm looking forward to reading more from Jen DeLuca!

About Tomorrow...

I close my eyes as I hear him speak. I take one very long and deep breath hoping to calm the immediate butterflies that take flight in my stomach and hope to slow down the racing of my heart. The voice was slightly deeper but the timbre was one that was achingly familiar.

My actions did little to help, but then who was I kidding? A deep breath wasn't going to fix the effect he had on me and my body's inevitable reaction. Even the memories that would forever haunt me couldn't keep my emotions from triggering at the nearness of him once again.

I used to pray that I'd find the strength to move on from him, from the pain that the end carried, from the emptiness in my chest, but ultimately move on from—the loss of Creed Sullivan and the death of his sister, Cora.

The Sullivans had been the best part of my summers in New England.

Deep down, I knew my ache for all that I had lost was the reason I returned...

But I hadn't expected to see him again—especially not like this.

When she’s not locked away writing, she is reading, shopping (major shoe and purse addiction), sneaking off to the movies alone, and listening to the drama in her teenagers lives while making mental notes on the good stuff to use later. Don’t judge.
