Cover Reveal: Meghan Quinn's See Me After Class!

SEE ME AFTER CLASS COVER REVEAL!!

The Setup by Meghan Quinn

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Releasing: November 12, 2020

"Did you have relations with my brother . . ."

Good question.

I’d like to preface this by saying it was never my intention to ever get involved in a workplace romance, let alone get involved with the most surly, agitating, and pompous man I’ve ever met who just so happens to be my new friend’s brother.

My intentions were to show students how English and reading books could actually be fun and make a new life for myself in the suburbs of Chicago.

But so far, I’ve managed to be called into the principal’s office.

Coerced into participating in the teacher's badminton league.

And instigated into passionate fights with Arlo Turner over education and decorum while losing my underwear at the same time.

Known as Mr. Turns Me On, he’s the reason I might get fired from my first ever teaching job.

CHRISTY'S REVIEW:

This cabin is a love letter from Adrian.

The Cabin was a heartbreakingly beautiful read. Jasinda Wilder really brought the feels with this one. It’s been a while since I’ve read one of her books, and I forgot how emotional they can be. I cried so many times but it was such a good read.

This is one of those books that’s not easy to review. I went in blind and I really don’t want to spoil too much. It’s a story of losing a once in a life time love and trying to move forward. It’s a journey. An ending of one epic story, and a beginning of another.
Beauty like yours, love like yours…it deserves to be shared. Someone out there needs you, and you need them.

Nadia was an incredibly strong character. I loved that she was a nurse like me, and even though she went through something unimaginably difficult, she came out on the other side. She was tough and brave, yet able to be vulnerable and open to love. Her journey is one I don’t want to spoil, but I loved so much about it.

This book hit me hard, maybe harder than most- TW for (view spoiler) but I’m still glad I read it. It was a hard read, but it was beautifully written and by the end I was happy.

The Cabin is a must read for anyone who is looking for a tear-jerker that’s poignant and passionate.
It feels like this was always us, always meant to be. From the moment I saw him sitting on the porch of his cabin, reading, I think I knew.

Excerpt

1: NDA

“All right, Mr. Bell. You’re all set here, I think.”

The nurse is that peculiar, unique brand of brusque efficiency and Zen-like kindness you only find in an oncology department. She fiddles with the IV line puncturing my left arm, the off-white, veiny medical tape securing it to my forearm. Her eyes are brown, the exact shade of a chocolate Labrador’s fur. She is warm, and caring, but lurking beneath that veneer of caregiver kindness is the detached iciness of someone whose job it is to watch people die.

“It will take a couple hours for this to drip through, and then we have to monitor you for—”

“I know,” I interrupt. I open the lid of my laptop. “I’ve been through this a few times.”

She smiles. “Of course, Mr. Bell. If you need anything, just press the call button.”

I hesitate a few seconds and then say, “There is something.” Then I glance at the curtain which is not quite pulled shut.

She catches my meaning and brings the two ends of the curtain together, the metal rings rasping with a rattling ring. “What can I do for you, Mr. Bell?”

I reach into my messenger bag, sitting on the floor next to this monstrosity of a chair—a freakish, Frankensteinian thing, not quite a lounger and not quite a clinical, medical device, but something in between. It’s made from a rubbery plastic or vinyl material that squeaks at every slight movement, and is too hard and too upright to be truly comfortable, but when you kick back in it and lift the footrest, it forces you into a near-horizontal recline in an unnatural defiance of gravity.

The chair is distracting, and I hate the chair almost as much as I hate the ward, the IV, and the whole damned morbid circus.

In my bag is a thin manila folder. On the label I’ve written three letters in neat block handwriting, in black Sharpie: NDA. I withdraw a single sheet of paper, on which are two and a half paragraphs, single-spaced. It’s in tight, clear legalese, drawn up by my attorney, printed on formal, intimidating letterhead. I hand it to the nurse whose nametag, clipped to her pale green sleeve, announces her as Tiffany Snell, R.N, O.C.N.

“This is an NDA, a nondisclosure agreement.”

She allows a frown, briefly. “Okay?”

I keep my voice low, not whispering, but pitched for her ears only. “I’m here alone, as I’m sure you’ve noticed.”

“Yes. Which is why your observation period has to be so long.”

“I know.”

I reach into my bag and pull out a pen—it’s a nice pen, hefty, metal, with a satisfying clicker, and on the side is my name: Adrian Bell, and my logo, a coat of arms with my monogram. It’s recognizable to most people, that logo; you see it on the title page of my books, on my website, and expensively animated as a production company logo during the title sequences when you watch movies made from my books. I hand her the pen, tap the NDA with it.

“This says you will not disclose to anyone that I was here at all, let alone why. I’m paying for this with cash, so there’s no insurance paperwork trail.”

She frowns again as she reads. “Why is it a secret, may I ask?”

“I have my reasons,” I say. “Whatever else must be done in the process of this infusion, I would like you to do, including observation and my eventual discharge. All right? This means that just one person has to sign this little item.” I tap the NDA again.

“And if I don’t sign it?” It’s not meant belligerently, just…a simple question.

I smile. “Tiffany—Miss Snell. Do I really need to spell this out? You know who I am. I don’t want this getting out. That’s all. I’m protecting my privacy.”

She breathes out gently—it’s not a sigh, more of a thoughtful breath. “What about your wife? Why isn’t she here?”

It takes all I have to not wince at the question. “I’m going to have to decline to answer that, Miss Snell. Can you please just sign? It just means you don’t tell anyone I was here. If coworkers ask, you simply say you can’t talk about it. Don’t make a big deal about it, just that—I can’t talk about it. That’s all.” I pause, smile again. “Would it help you to know I’m a yearly donor to this facility?”

She rolls a shoulder. “Not really. I’m just a nurse.” Another of those thoughtful out-breaths. “Mr. Bell, I’ll sign your NDA. But I have to register my thoughts with you. Hiding this is not fair.” Her warm brown eyes momentarily reveal the sadness she normally keeps hidden. “I’ve seen your file, obviously. What you’re dealing with, it’s…it’s not…”

“It doesn’t have a stellar survival rate,” I finish. “I know.”

“Hiding it from your wife, Mr. Bell—”

“Adrian.”

“It’s really, really not fair of you, Adrian. You’re not doing her any favors. I obviously don’t know a thing about your marriage, but if she loves you—”

I let out a shaky breath, cut her off. “She does, Tiffany. More than I deserve. More than…More than is, perhaps, healthy.”

“So why—”

“I have my reasons,” I say again. Now I do not smile. I frown in a way that says this conversation has to be over. “It’s not fair of me, I know. Believe me, I know. But it’s not fair that I have this. That I’m here. It’s not fair that I’m paying as much for this treatment as I am. What in your life can you list as unfair, Tiffany? A lot, I’m sure. Fair is a myth. Fair does not exist.”

She gazes at me evenly, steadily and then takes the pen from me. Signs the NDA in a nurse’s hasty scrawl. Dates it. Hands me the pen.

“Keep it.”

She lets a small smile cross her lips. “I’ve read all your books, you know. I enjoy them. They make me feel like I can believe in love again.” She gestures with the pen. “Thank you.”

“If you happen to have a copy with you, I’ll sign it for you.”

She bites a lip. “I do, actually.”

“Bring it when you come to check on me.”

She nods, hooks the pen by the clip at an angle in the V of her scrub top. Smiles at me again, and leaves.

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, my mother used to tell me.

I enter the passcode on my laptop; there’s Wi-Fi here, so I could check email, but I don’t. In fact, I turn Wi-Fi off, so I won’t be distracted by the siren song of email, pull my wireless earbuds from my bag, and turn on Rostropovich via my phone.

I open my manuscript. Close my eyes, take a deep breath, hold it, and let it out slowly. Repeat four times. Pushing away, mentally, the fog of the chemo, the pinch of the IV, the continual beeping of IV machines indicating a bag is finished, the occasional static PA announcements, the squeak of sensible sneakers, and the murmur of quiet conversations.

Push it all away. Find my flow.

It’s there, under the surface. It’s always there; it’s always been there. Like Louis L’Amour said, I could sit in the middle of Sunset Boulevard with a typewriter on my knees, and once I’m in the flow, I wouldn’t notice a thing but the words on the page.

With this story I’m working on now, though, it’s harder, and it takes more effort to sink down into it, more mental gymnastics to get into the flow. I need to find the right balance, tap into the necessary emotions, while still remaining the objective storyteller.

This one is personal. More than all the other books I’ve written over my career, this one…this one requires more of me.

And I have to get it right.

I’m writing it for an audience of one. Well, two. But really, just one. Her.

My love. My Nadia.

The Chase is Over by Toni Aleo is AVAILABLE NOW!

You are cordially invited to the wedding of Shelli Adler and Aiden Brooks…

Shelli has been planning her wedding to Aiden in her scrapbook since she was old enough to wield a glue stick. And now that day has finally arrived. Sure, it’s over the top, but what else would you expect from the firstborn daughter of hockey royalty?

Aiden is along for the ride with Shelli’s grand ideas, just as long as his beloved Stanley Cup gets a position of honor on their big day. Whatever his beautiful bride-to-be wants, he’s going to make sure she gets. Even if he has to do some soul-searching to figure out how to get the job done.

Shelli knows she’s only getting married once, and she’s not throwing away her shot.

CHRISTY'S REVIEW
I will never ever get tired of reading about the Assassins family. When I saw we were getting a Shelli and Aiden novella about their wedding I was so exited. I loved this one so much!

Aiden and Shelli have been meant to be since they were just kids- ask Shelli, she'll tell you. It took a little longer for Aiden to come around though. Now that they're together, they're stronger than ever and planning an epic wedding. Shelli has known what she wanted her wedding day to look like for forever, every last detail, including the groom.

I loved watching Shelli and Aiden lead up to their big day. There was a bit of conflict in this, but I thought it was resolved perfectly. I adored this book and I can't wait to get Wes's book, I hope that's next!

Cover Reveal: Bet the Farm by Staci Hart!

Guys! I'm so excited! Staci Hart has a brand new rom-com standalone coming January 26th! Bet the Farm is a heartfelt, flirty story of opposites attract and I cannot WAIT to read it! Mark your calendars and pre-order your copy today!

Amazon | AppleBooks | Kobo | B&N | Goodreads

Olivia Brent has one summer to save the dairy farm she just inherited.

But there’s one problem, and it’s not her lactose intolerance.

Jake Milovic.

The brooding farmhand has inherited exactly fifty percent of Brent Farm, and he’s so convinced the city girl can’t work the land, he bets she can’t save it in a summer.

Determined to prove him wrong, Olivia accepts what might be the dumbest wager of her life.

His strategy to win seems simple: follow her around, shirtlessly distracting her between bouts of relentless taunting. And it’s effective—if his dark eyes and rare smiles aren’t enough to sidetrack her, the sweaty, rolling topography of the manbeast’s body would do the trick.

What they don’t know: they’ll have to weather more than each other.

Mysterious circumstances throw the farm into disarray, and with the dairy farm in danger, Olivia and Jake have to work together. But when they do, there’s more to fear than either of them imagined.

Because now their hearts are on the line, and the farm won’t be the only casualty if they fail.

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Secretly hooking up with the team captain's sister was a bad idea.

In my defense, the first time I saw her I didn't know who she was.

Kind, gorgeous, a little naïve. Ginny brightened my world from day one.

I knew I was no good for her. She was just out of a relationship and I had a reputation for having a new girl in my bed every weekend.

I tried to do the right thing. Honest.

I'm the one who insisted we should be just friends.

That lasted about as long as you'd expect.

But Ginny? She's the best--best friend, best everything.

So yeah, hooking up with the team captain's sister wasn't a great idea.

Would I do it again?

In a heartbeat.

 CHRISTY'S REVIEW:

I love Rebecca Jenshak’s sports romances and I was super excited to read this one. First off, it’s a friends to lovers and brother’s friend/roommate romance. And second of all, the hero is Nate’s (from ‘The Fake’) brother.

Ginny is a college freshman who just got out of a breakup. She doesn’t know anyone at Valley college, except for her hockey playing brother, Adam. She starts to meet some of Adam’s friends and teammates, one of them who is insanely attractive to her, Heath. Heath and Ginny become friends but that’s all. Adam has warned his teammates off his little sister.

“You and I are going to be just friends.”
“Friends?” His brows raise. “I don’t have girl friends.”
“You do now.”

The more time these two spend together, the more apparent it becomes that friendship isn’t going to be enough. They want to be together, but they keep it on the down low. I loved the secret dating aspect and most of all I loved the banter and friendship between this couple. Overall, this was a fairly low angst and fun read.

If you’re a fan of new adult sports romance, you should definitely check this book out! I’m excited that Adam’s book will be next and I really hope there is a Mav book also!

5 stars to PRIDE AND PAPERCUTS by Stacy Hart!

The Austen series is coming to an end. The final book in the series is LIVE! I'm so excited to read Pride & Papercuts, a modern love story inspired by Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice! Have you grabbed your copy yet?

Amazon | AppleBooks | Kobo | B&N | Goodreads

Hate is a strong word.

Depending on the company, loathe is a good substitute. Abhor might be a little fancy, but it gets the job done. But the word that really sums up how I feel about Liam Darcy is, without question, hate.

He doesn’t seem to think much of me either. The second he lays his fault-seeking eyes on me, he sets out to oppose me. Everything about him is imposing, as if he consumes the nearby air to power the rise and fall of his broad chest, and it’s clear he resents my presence on his advertising team. Every idea I have is shot down. Every olive branch I offer is set on fire by nothing more than the blistering coals he calls eyes.

In return, I light him up with my words.

It’s not as if he can dismiss me, since I work for his client, Wasted Words. Instead, he’s forced to tolerate me, which seems the closest we’ll ever be to friends. Fine by me.

I can be civil and still hate Liam Darcy.

But if there’s more to him than his exterior shows, I won’t be able to hate him at all. I might stumble over that line between love and hate and fall right into his arms.

Christy's 5 star review

This was the thing I’d feared, the redemption I’d craved. Because now that I knew her power, I would be a slave to her. And I’d be shackled willingly.

Pride and Papercuts is not only an amazing enemies to lovers story, it's the ultimate Pride and Prejudice retelling. Seriously friends, this one is epic. I'll be the first to admit, I like Pride and Prejudice but I'm not a super fan or anything. Controversial opinion here I'm sure, but I loved this story more than the original. There was something so special about it and I couldn't get enough of Laney Bennet and Liam Darcy.

Laney Bennet and her brother Jett are the only two Bennet's that don't work in the family business. They work at Wasted Words- a bookstore/bar thats undergoing a new marketing campaign. Since Laney does all their social media and current marketing, she's heavily involved with the new launch. The company working with them is Liam and his sister Gerogie's.

Liam and Laney butt heads from the first moment they meet. They don't work well together at first, but they challenge each other in the best way. Still, they're openly hostile at times. Underneath the hostility, there is so much banter and tension. And you just know, when they finally do something about it it's going to be so explosive, so passionate... and it is.

Gahhh I loved this couple so much. Liam Darcy was the greatest broody hero. He's got his issues and he's the way he is for a reason, but he needs someone exactly like Laney in his life. Someone that challenges him and makes him see things differently. Laney was such a wonderful heroine. She's strong, stands up for what she believes in and is completely loyal. They make such a great pair.
“I’ll forgive you on one condition.” “Anything.” “Kiss me.” Smiling, he leaned in and said against my lips, “Always.” One word, and I was his. One kiss, and I was gone.

Another thing I truly loved about this book was not only did it have great side characters, there was a whole other side romance going on between Jett and Georgie. It was fun watching them fall in love and I enjoyed that part of the book so much. I also loved the relationship Laney had with Jett and Liam with Georgie. Strong sibling bonds are the best.

This was one of the most beautifully written, swoony, and sweep you off your feet romances I've read in 2020. It was such a glorious slow burn and I adored every page. Pride and Papercuts can be read as a stand alone, but if you've read Hart's other books (the Bennet Brothers, specifically) you might even love it more. Lovers of modern day retellings, forbidden romance, slow burn, and enemies to lovers- YOU NEED TO READ THIS!

Meet Your Next: Enemies to Lovers- Featuring YOU DESERVE EACH OTHER

Enemies to Lovers is a genre I LOVE and it was so hard for me to pick just one book to feature... but I had to go with one of my top books of 2020 and one of the most unique enemies to lovers stories I have ever read...

Nick and Naomi from YOU DESERVE EACH OTHER by Sarah Hogle

The reason I loved this book so much is because it's about an engaged couple... yes, you read that right. Nick and Naomi are engaged and they used to love each other but now there is more hate than love. They're planning a wedding (actually her monster-in-law is planning and paying for it) so Naomi feels stuck. She can't leave Nick without having to pay for a lot of the wedding. Nick at first was a hero I didn't know if I would love or not, but holy cow... I LOVED HIM! He was the best hero and showed what devotion and unconditional love really looks like. He showed Naomi through his actions that she was his priority and I laughed and swooned so hard throughout this whole story!

If you're looking for a unique enemies to lovers that has the best banter and will make you laugh out loud and swoon, I can't recommend this one enough!

She lands in Grand Haven, California—a city booming with billion-dollar corporations and tech money—and everything changes. Armed with the only lesson she learned from her mother, Lydia builds a life of routine, solitude, and success. Nothing is out of reach when you’re beautiful. Nearly a decade after her arrival, Lydia's the highest paid escort in the city, and only the most influential people in Grand Haven can get near her. She's a goddess among her clients, and out of reach to everyone else. Lydia's created the perfect illusion, and no one will take it from her again. Until a misunderstanding lands her in the office of the city’s most eligible bachelor. Talent Ridge is Grand Haven royalty. Despite running in the same circles as Lydia’s clients, he’s scandal-free and on his way to being the most powerful man in the area. Their chemistry is undeniable, but a relationship has the potential to destroy everything they’ve worked for. Especially when Lydia is running from her past, and Talent is running toward a future she can never be a part of. Beauty and money can’t save them this time. Are Lydia and Talent willing to give it all up for each other, or will their differences cost too much?

HARLOT (Hush Series #2) by Mary Elizabeth

About the Author: Mary Elizabeth was born and raised in Southern California. She is a wife, mother of four beautiful children, and dog tamer to one enthusiastic Pit Bull and a prissy Chihuahua. She's a hairstylist by day but contemporary fiction, new adult author by night. Mary can often be found finger twirling her hair and chewing on a stick of licorice while writing and rewriting a sentence over and over until it's perfect. She discovered her talent for tale-telling accidentally, but literature is in her chokehold. And she's not letting go until every story is told.
