SYNOPSIS:
A new town. A new identity. Pregnant and alone.
And far away from a past that can never find me.

River Wild.
Moody. Sullen. Asshole.
And my new neighbor.

I have no interest in befriending River. And he definitely doesn’t want to be befriended by me.

Then, he helps me rescue an abandoned dog. And, that day, I see something in his eyes that reflects back in my own. Sadness. Pain. Loneliness.

I know all of those things well.

An unwanted and unexpected friendship that somehow works. Then, without warning, it turns into something more.

River and I both have our secrets, and that’s okay. Because I understand him. And he understands me.

For the first time in my life, I have something I never thought I would have—happiness.

But happiness isn’t forever. Not for people like me.

Especially not when my past is waiting just around the corner, ready to come and take it all away.

NOW LIVE! The Wish Collector by Mia Sheridan!

★☆★ THE WISH COLLECTOR is LIVE EARLY, FREE on Kindle Unlimited, and features the SPECIAL RELEASE WEEK PRICE of $3.99!!! ★☆★

New Orleans, a city of mystery and magic, of secrets and dreams, and a history drenched in both love and the deepest of heartache.
When ballet dancer Clara Campbell arrives in New Orleans, lonely and homesick, she is immediately captivated by the story of Windisle Plantation and the tragic tale that is said to have transpired beyond its gate. Legend has it that it is abandoned by all living souls, but to Clara’s great surprise, it is not a ghost she hears through the stone wall surrounding the property, but a flesh and blood man. A scarred stranger with a pain deeper and darker than the churning waters of the Mississippi river that flows beside his self-imposed prison.
The ruined man behind the wall hides himself from the world. The last thing he expects is to find a friend in the selfless girl who speaks to him through the cracks in the rock. The girl who keeps returning week after week. The girl who makes him wish for things he has long since given up on. The girl who strikes both fear and hope within his wounded heart. But there can be no future for them, no life beyond Windisle, for no one knows better than him that monsters only live in the dark.
The Wish Collector is the story of shame and triumph, of loneliness and love, and the miracle of two hearts connecting despite the strongest of barriers between them.

Christy's Review:
description

Mia Sheridan has written another exquisitely beautiful, emotional, and stunning romance. This one grabbed me from the start and not only did the present romance captivate me, but I was also pulled in by the past. Each story was interesting and made me fall in love. This story had so many feels and felt like a lot of Mia's older books that I love so much.

Clara Campbell is a ballerina who is new to NOLA. She is slowly making friends with her neighbors, but spends most of her time dancing. When she hears the legend of a tragic love story that took place in the 1800's, she goes to that plantation to investigate. There is something about that story that fills her with the need to find out more. When she ends up at the Windisle Plantation, she doesn't expect anyone to be there. It's supposedly been abandoned for quite some time. But there, she meets Jonah.

Jonah's life used to be exciting. He was a young and handsome attorney on the rise to the top of his law firm. He took one case... one case he never should have taken, and everything changed. Now, he's a hermit. He lives at his family's plantation and doesn't want to see anyone. Or more importantly, doesn't want anyone to see him. Then he meets Clara. And everything changes. Everything.

Clara and Jonah develop a friendship. Both are lonely and in need of companionship, and even though Jonah doesn't want to be seen, he lets Clara in where it really counts. His heart.

He was beauty and pain, glory and suffering, vengeance and grace, and all things made stronger and more meaningful because they have an opposite.

These two together... sigh. I loved them both so much. Jonah was very much the damaged and tortured hero I love to read about. Clara was a strong heroine who helped him come out of his shell. But she only helped so much, Jonah was strong enough to pull himself out of it, too. Clara was just that final push he needed.

The Wish Collector takes place in New Orleans. The majority of the story takes place in current times, but there are quite a few chapters that take place in the mid-late 1800's. Those chapters sort of felt like a mystery at first. Each chapter from the past gave us a new discovery and was connected in a way to the present. I loved both of the romances, but Jonah and Clara's was so beautiful. It was such a slow burn, friends to lovers tale and I couldn't get enough.

If you're looking for a gorgeous romance that's character driven, magical, equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming, and will enchant you, pick up The Wish Collector. The cover is so beautiful and the story is a unique one of love, tragedy, redemption, forgiveness, and growth. Mia did an amazing job with this story and I highly recommend it.

My monster. My wish collector. My love.

Audio Review: Unzipped by Lauren Blakely

AUDIO REVIEW:

   photo IMG_2420_zpsytvuvhqa.png

Unzipped was such a fun and sweet friends to lovers story. Even though the two main characters were strangers at the beginning of the book, they became fast friends before any romance stepped in.

Kyler- aka Tom is out to get his college sweetheart back. She was his first love and he feels like he’s ready for a relationship now. He’s more settled. He decides to go with a big gesture. He’ll go to her home, play the boombox, all that good stuff. Problem is… he goes to her neighbors house *face palm*. This neighbor, Finley, gets a kick out of this. She explains to Tom that his ex is never there and decides to help him to come up with a less corny way to win her back since they have time.

This book made me smile and laugh non-stop. It was super cute. I thought the narrators did a great job with this audio. They were high energy and did an amazing job voicing Tom and Finley. I also loved that even though Tom started out wanting his ex back, wanting Finely just came naturally. It never felt like she was second best to me. And Finely had her show/writing going on but using Tom as inspiration was never hidden. I loved how open these two were with one another.

If you’re looking for a light and entertaining romance, check out Unzipped. If you are an audio book listener, I highly recommend it in this format! It was fantastic.

Review: Tragic by Devney Perry

Kaine Reynolds wants nothing more than solitude. After an unthinkable tragedy destroys his family, he’s cut off all ties to his former life so he can battle his grief the only way he knows how.W

So when Piper Campbell knocks on his door, rambling on about being his new neighbor, he slams the door in her face.

But Kaine’s gruff demeanor doesn’t scare her. She’s set on living in Montana and starting over after a terrible divorce. And she wouldn’t mind having a fling to chase away the pain of her husband’s betrayal. Her handsome, albeit rude, neighbor is the perfect candidate.

CHRISTY'S REVIEW:

   photo IMG_2404_zpshvhzkizi.png

Devney Perry's Lark Cove series just gets better and better with each book. Tragic is a fantastic read that hit me right in the feels. I loved it.

Piper Campbell is a recently divorced New-Yorker moving to Montana for a fresh start. She loves her job and finds a great place to live that just needs a little work. The only thing wrong with the place... the neighbor. Kaine is grouchy, but  Piper can tell there is so much more to him than that. Kaine has pain. The kind that is deep. Even as these two become 'friends', it's something he never opens up about.

Kaine's story broke my heart. It truly did. I can't imagine going through something like he went through. I loved that he found Piper. Someone he could be himself with. Someone who made him want to try again, want to be more. My favorite part of this story was watching him start to open up and start to heal.
“I don’t want to be reminded of you in pain.”
“And I want you to always remember that you saved me.”

Piper was one of those characters you couldn't help but to love. I adored her. She was understanding, compassionate, and strong. Kaine was a broken man who never knew he could find the right person to put him back together. I love that these two were healing for one another. They were each the missing pieces to each others hearts.

This book had an interesting plot, the writing was wonderful, and it gave me all the feels I need in a book. I love emotional stories, and this was heavy without being too much. It made me cry, but also gave me hope and by the end I had a big smile on my face. Kaine and Piper's book was great. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series!

COVER REVEAL: Across the Horizon by Aly Martinez

“Sometimes love happens when you least expect it.”

That was what my husband’s mistress told me the day I found out about their affair.

I didn’t believe it until five minutes later when mouth-watering celebrity chef Tanner Reese walked up, tossed his arm around my shoulders, and told my cheating husband to take a hike.

Tanner and I couldn’t have been more different. He spent his weekends at clubs, rubbing elbows with fellow A-listers. I spent mine in yoga pants with cheese boards and a glass of wine—or six.

Our relationship shouldn’t have worked, but it did. That is until Tanner proved to me that even though love happens when you least expect it...

So does heartbreak.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.

5+ Stars to Heartbreak Warfare

Title: Heartbreak Warfare

Authors: Heather M. Orgeron & Kate Stewart

Genre: Contemporary Military Romance

Release Date: November 2, 2018

Blurb

Briggs,

Remember when I said we couldn’t speak after parting ways in Germany? It was
the day I broke your heart. What you didn't know was that I was breaking mine
too.

I thought they’d be enough–my husband and my son. That I’d get home and
everything would go back to the way it was . . .

Before the war.
Before the ambush.
Before you.

But, no matter how hard I try, I can’t erase the trauma we shared. I can’t seem
to forget the way my heart beat in time with yours.

The truth is I’m lost without you.

I thought the nightmare was over when they pulled us from that hole in the
ground, but nothing could have prepared me for the war I’d face at home.
I know it’s selfish of me to ask, but, please, I have to see you one last time.
. .

All my love,
Scottie

Christy's 5+ Star Review:

   photo IMG_2158_zpszgknfgh3.png

After reading this story all I could think was WOW. What an epic book. And hello feels. This story was everything. It gave me all the feels, moved me, was crazy angsty, heartfelt, and a true masterpiece. Kate Stewart is one of my favorite authors, and I’ve never read Heather M. Orgeron before, but what a duo they make! The writing was truly top notch and the story was unique, intense, and moving.

Katy is a soldier. She’s leaving her husband and son for a tour, even though it’s the last thing she wants to do. It’s her duty. She’s there with her best friend, which should make things easier, but it’s rough for her. She misses her family. After some time, she and her bestie Mullins make friends with a group of guys. Briggs is one of those guys. He’s fun and flirty, but just a friend. It’s war and the unthinkable happens. Everyone in that groups life is forever changed.

This story is complicated. It’s impossible at times. It’s real, raw, heartbreaking and gut wrenching. It’s in an area of gray. There aren’t clear lines. Anyone who can find fault in these characters after what they’ve been through… the connection you share when you go through something like they went through- it’s unbreakable. There is no fault. And I’m being intentionally vague because this is a book you need to read for yourself, feel for yourself.

“I know you, Scottie. . .” His voice breaks as he shakes his head in disbelief. “I know you.”

   photo IMG_2159_zpsyk8lehwc.png

This was a hard book for me to read. It actually has topics I hate reading about... but you have to trust me when I say, read it anyway. Even if you aren’t a huge lover of angst, even if you don’t like ‘love triangles’, read it. I feel like everything worked out the way it was supposed to, even though it wasn’t an easy path. It was the only path.

Kate and Heather wrote this book flawlessly. Honestly, there wasn’t one point I could tell it was written by two different authors. It’s told from three different view points (you most definitely need all three) and there is no way I could pick out who wrote what. I love when authors collaborate so seamlessly.

Heartbreak Warfare is angsty, it’s emotional, it’s a book that gutted me. It’s unputdownable and truly brilliant. I know for sure this book will be in my top favorites this year. I can’t see much topping it. Even though this was not an easy read, it’s a book that needs to be read! 5+ stars!

There are only two things in life I’m sure of. My love of this country and my love for you.
