Brittainy C. Cherry and Kandi Steiner are two favorites of mine. They both have this gorgeous, poetic, and lyrical writing style. So who better to write a book of poetry than these two? I am not normally a huge reader of poems, but I couldn’t pass this one up. I loved how the poems were about different things. Self acceptance, love and romance, heartbreak, it had it all. It make my heart happy and ache at the same time as only these authors can do. Here are a few of my favorites:
 

It was on the silent nights, the ones she spent alone, that she understood lonely was not the absence of another person, but rather the absence of self-love.

Yesterday it didn’t exist. Tomorrow it may be gone. Yet in this moment, we loved.

Love me slowly. Breathe me in. Tell me I’m more than all my worst sins.

I anxiously await every new release Jessica Park puts out. After she wrote one of my all-time favorite reads, Left Drowning, she has become an auto-read author for me. When I read the blurb for 180 Seconds and saw the gorgeous cover, I knew I had to have it. I preordered that paperback the very second I saw it live on Amazon. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that I was hyped up for this release and had very high expectations. I was expecting a book that made me FEEL, one that made me FALL IN LOVE. I am happy to say I got both of those things from this book.

Allison Dennis spent most of her life in the foster care system. She is starting her third year of college and is one of those people who keeps to herself. The only two people she has in her life is the man who adopted her at 16, Simon, and her best friend, Steffie. Steffie and Allison have a beautiful friendship. They are each others person and more like family than anything. Steffie is the only family Allison has ever known and the only person she’s ever truly let in.

Things start to change one day when Allison is minding her own business and gets pulled into a social experiment of sorts. It’s here she meets Esben. Esben and Allison sit across from each other for 180 seconds. Those seconds, those moments, they are so powerful. Honestly, reading that was so moving. I thought it was such a brilliant way to introduce the main characters. You felt their spark, the strong connection they shared. You felt everything.

When Allison gets to know Esben and slowly lets him in, she starts to change. Watching the change in her was such a beautiful thing. Allison was a real and flawed character. I felt for her. I loved how raw and real she was. Esben was pretty perfect. Almost too good to be true. As was Simon. I just adored him. I loved a lot of the characters in this one. I loved the romance between Esben and Allison, but I loved even more that it wasn’t the entire focus of the book. This story is so much more that a romance. It’s an epic journey for Allison. It’s her finding who she is and embracing it. It's her learning to let people in.



180 Seconds has all the things I love in a book. A broken character, emotion, heartbreak, and heartwarming moments. It was’t a sad book per se, but boy did it bring out the tears for me. But there weren't only tears, there was also a lot of laughter and love. Park’s writing is fantastic and her stories are always unique and beautifully written. Allison’s story was genuine and from the heart. I recommend for anyone looking for an emotional NA read.

You’re the Only One is first and foremost a story of friendship. Dillon and Sky are the type of friends that are more like family. They love each other, but that love changes and grows as the story goes on. If you enjoy a good friends to lovers story, this is one you need to grab asap!

Dillon and Sky become neighbors when they’re kids. Their moms become best friends, and it works out to where they become best friends as well. They have each others backs through it all. No one is more important to Sky than Dillon and vice-versa. After high school, they both decide to move to NYC. Dillon is a musician and Sky is into fashion. They’re chasing their dreams sand navigating life together.

I loved the friendship between Dillon and Sky. I even loved the romance. The feelings they had were real and genuine. Both characters were lovable and I thought the writing was fantastic. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was (view spoiler)[ The couple spent WAY more of the book apart than together. And though I know when they were friends they were JUST friends, I didn’t want to read about them with other people so intimately… that’s just my preference. And I wish once they were together they were more together if that makes sense (hide spoiler)]

One thing I really loved about this book was the familial story line. I loved both of the moms and the relationships they had with them. I also really loved Sky and Dillon’s other BFF’s. There was a lot to love about this story and overall, it was a great read for me.

You’re the Only One is a beautifully written friends to lovers romance that is sweet, sexy, and has a good bit of angst. As I said earlier, it’s more than just a romance. It’s a story of friendship, of family, of sacrifice and unconditional love. I smiled, I cried, at times I laughed out loud. I enjoyed this book a lot and would definitely recommend.

E.M. Abel was born and raised a Marine Corps brat. She spent a large portion of her life moving and living in her mother’s home country, Japan. As a result, she gained independence and a unique perspective on the world. The youngest of three girls, E.M. Abel spent a lot of time alone in her room writing or sketching in her journals and dreaming up stories. Growing up, she wrote poems, short stories and articles for her high school newspaper. Forever Mine by Erin Nicholas Review!

One of my favorite things about Erin Nicholas’ Opposites Attract series, is that the heroines are straight up geeks. And I mean that in the best way possible. It’s a fun and refreshing spin on romance.

Maya and Alex meet when Alex comes to one of Maya’s classes. Maya is a martial artist instructor for kids. She makes her classes fun by incorporating super heroes. After Maya got hurt with her last job in law enforcement, she thought this would deb a good way to stay in shape and still help. 



Dr. Alex Nolan needs all the help he can get when it comes to super heroes. You see, his 10 year old daughter who he just recently found out about is obsessed with them. Maya is just the woman he needs. She can teach him all about the super heroes that impress his daughter so much. 


 

“The best superheroes are flawed in some way. Typically something has happened to them—either a trauma or a freak accident or just good old destiny—and they either choose to rise above or they let it bring them down. We love them because they made the choice to rise above.”

Alex and Maya’s friendship is there, but the attraction between them burns the pages from the very beginning. Alex may not know if he’s ready for a relationship, but it’s apparent that these two are hot for each other from the start. I loved watching their back and forth and seeing their chemistry flourish. There were many sweet moments, fun times, and all around geeky goodness in this book. 



I loved the dynamic of Maya and her friends. I even liked the Alex/Charlie/Rachel dynamic. Alex irked me a few times, but I got where he was coming with when it came to his daughter. I spent my time reading this with a big smile on my face, rooting for these two characters to be together. 

If you’re looking for a fast, fun, and sweet read, this is one I would recommend!

CHRISTY'S REVIEW: 

 

Jeremy and Sierrra are my favorite couple in Tessa Teevan’s ‘Explosive’ series. They are just fantastically fun and their romance is epic in it’s own right. We met their daughter, Ava, at the very start of the series when she’s a young girl. As a fan of this series, I was excited to read this book. A note to fellow readers, this can be read as a complete stand-alone. You don’t have to read any of Tessa’s other books to enjoy it!

Ava Banks is destined for great things. She has big dreams. Going to California and acting is one of them. Ava’s best friend and neighbors name is Tucker. They have been best friends since they’ve been babies. Literally. They have a bond like no other. It’s always just friendship between them, until one night in high school, it becomes more. Shortly after that night, something happens in their lives and that something changes everything.
 

One kiss had changed everything. And then one night turned our worlds upside down.

As I’m sure you can tell by the blurb, this is a second chance romance. Ava and Tucker truly did have an epic love. The things that I’m normally leery about in a second chance romance didn’t exist in this book. That normal drama, or other people stress was not there.[ I loved Ava. Don’t get me wrong, I really did. HOWEVER, even as a teenager, there is NO WAY I could have left Tucker like that after that tragedy he faced. Even if they were just best friends. Going to school is one thing, but I wish she would have handled how she left him differently. I wish she would have tried harder, pushed harder to keep Tucker in her life. He needed her and I felt that he was somewhat abandoned.  (hide spoiler)]

 


Tucker is one of my favorite heroes Tessa has written. He was pretty darn perfect. I loved how patient and understanding he was. He was sweet, kind and just the best kind of guy. I loved the relationship he had with his brother and the whole Banks family. Speaking of the Bankses, not only did I love Ava, but her little brothers! They were fantastic. And Jeremy and Sierra <3 as="" br="" couple="" earlier="" favorite="" i="" most="" my="" re="" said="" they="">
Words I Couldn’t Say is a story of friendship, second chance romance, and true love conquering all. I laughed, I teared up, I smiled and my heart soared while reading this book. It’s a great escape and a beautiful love story I highly recommend!

“I’m yours, too,” I admitted.

“For always?” he asked.

“For always.”

 

The air around us was silent save for the crickets chirping off in the distance. The cool Cincinnati breeze nipped at my skin while I waited for his reaction. When I’d started writing this novel, it had been an ode to my past love. My past life. But then it’d taken on a life of its own and become so much more. Which had made it that much more poignant. That much harder to fathom the one word that’d been haunting me for years.

Goodbye.

At long last, he turned to the final page and sucked in a breath. My stomach twisted in knots because he was about to read the end. And I didn’t know how he’d interpret it. Half scared he’d tell me that I’d lost my mind and no one would ever want to read this story, especially with that ending.

He didn’t make me wait long. As his head slowly rose, I was taken aback at the tears shining in his usually cheerful eyes. This man, who had always been like a second father to me, had been reduced to tears by my words. My words. Words we both knew for whom they were meant. And, instead of calling me a fool or attempting to kill me, he watched me with tearful appreciation, switching between nodding and shaking his head as if trying to process it all.

I didn’t know how to react, so I simply stared at him, waiting for him to say something. Anything.

He closed the manuscript and set it on the table in front of us before taking a long swig from his whiskey glass. I followed suit and enjoyed the smoky burn that did little to soothe my nerves.

“Jesus Christ,” he muttered, his eyes locking in on mine. “Tucker. You did it. You fucking did it,” he whispered, seemingly unashamed of his emotional display.

I nodded, the same emotion welling up inside me when I remembered the ending of my first novel. So many love stories begin with the girl who got away. Mine wasn’t any different. Not only in my novel, but in real life as well. Ava Banks was, and always would be, that girl for me. But, instead of slipping through my fingers, she’d made the conscious decision to leave. And, like most dumbass men, I’d let her. Hell, I’d pushed her away. I’d regretted it ever since.

But, now, I was hoping like hell I could get the second chance Trevor did. Hoping like hell my story would turn out differently than his. But, either way, I was putting myself out there, as terrifying as that was. She finally, finally would hear the words I couldn’t say all those years ago.

Now, I just had to wait to see what she’d do about it. 

Tessa Teevan is a twenty-something book junkie who is also obsessed with sports. Bengals, Buckeyes, Reds are who she spends her time rooting for. She’s a research analyst by day, reads/writes by night, and is married to a guy 15 inches taller than her, making them quite the pair! They currently reside just outside of Dayton, OH with two adorably grumpy cats. 

If she’s not writing or scouring through tons of photos of hot men, all in the name of research, then you can probably find her curled up with her Kindle, ignoring the rest of the world. She loves her sports almost as much as she loves her books. Her other obsessions include red wine, hot men, rock music, and all things Corey Taylor.
