Sidebarred by Emma Chase - MUST READ!!

Sidebarred by Emma Chase
A Legal Briefs Novella

There was a time when Jake Becker had it all together. He was controlled, driven, ruthless—in and out of the courtroom.

Then, six irresistible orphans and their heartbreakingly beautiful aunt crashed into his perfectly ordered life. They changed everything. They changed him. Now he’s a husband, an upstanding member of society, a father figure—a family man. And he’s pretty damn good at it.

Sure, he has to referee sibling smackdowns, re-learn algebra, ensure his clients stay of jail, and keep his wife happy—but it finally feels like he’s got it together again....

So, of course something has to screw it all up. It’s huge. Life-changing. Kind of terrifying.

And it will be the most amazing, perfect thing he’ll ever do.

Bella's 5 Star Review

Sustained was the most amazing book and I'm THRILLED that we got to catch up with Jake and Chelsea and the whole gang with this novella.

I rarely give novellas 5 stars because they usually leave me wanting more. And while I could never get enough of reading about this family, Sidebarred filled up my heart and left me smiling and satisfied.

Sidebarred is told from only Jakes POV. Emma Chase has really nailed the male POV and I love being in Jake's head. He is such an awesome hero.

What I loved about this book:
~The writing. I was sucked in and couldn't stop turning the pages.
~ The feels. Seriously. I laughed OUT LOUD many times. Funny scenes, sexy scenes, heart wrenching scenes, happy scenes. I felt SO much while reading this little nugget.
~ Jake. It warrants repeating. Jake is so awesome. I especially love the scenes with Jake interacting with the kids. Him braiding hair, giving sex talks, easing Raymond's fears....SWOON. Seriously, I could not be more in love with this fictional character.
~ Chelsea. She is also a pretty amazing heroine. I love that she is strong and challenges Jake when he gets all caveman. (But I also love that he gets all caveman over Chelsea.)
~ The kids. This story would not pull at my heart without EVERY SINGLE ONE of the 6 kids. They all have different personalities. They all bring out something different in the story. Even if you don't like kids, you can't help but fall in love with these kids.
~Narration. I read the book first, but HAD to get the audio. This is my favorite way to re-read a book and Sebastian York played Jake perfectly. PERFECTLY. I love his narration in general. But awesome narration + awesome story = absolute perfection.

What I didn't like about the book: not a thing!! I loved every second!!!

Bottom line: Sustained and Sidebarred are hands down one of my most favorite reads this year. PLEASE read Sidebarred, but start with Sustained

READ IT.

Highly Recommend.

Super-awesome-favorite!!!

Christy's 5 Star Review

Sustained was my favorite book in Emma Chase’s Legal Briefs series. When I heard we were getting a novella with more Jake, Chelsea and the kids (plus the rest of the gang) I jumped with excitement. This novella did not disappoint. I loved getting more of my favorite characters and savored every word of their story. It’s a quick read with a lot of heart and one all fans of this series should pick up as soon as it’s available.
We’ve been married for about two years and there hasn’t been a single morning when I didn’t wake with a smile tugging at my lips. Not one fucking time. Because she’s beside me.

Jake Becker has it all. A great job, great friends, a wife he loves more than anything and 6 kids that fell in his lap when he met Chelsea. It’s been 2 years since they’ve been married and he wouldn’t change a thing. Jake loves his hectic and wild life. I’m sure we all wonder from time to time what happens after the end of the book. I love when authors give us glimpses into that! Once again, this story is completely is Jake’s POV which is the best thing ever. Chase does the greatest job with the male POV. I adored the direction this story took and it was great to see the gang growing up.

Sidebarred is very much an extended epilogue of Sustainedand kind of the entire Legal Briefs series. You will want to read the other books first, or at the very least, Sustained. I rarely give novella’s 5 stars but there was not one thing I didn’t completely love and adore about this story. It was perfection. Sweet, sexy, funny, the entire package! I recommend to all fans of this series. Read it as soon as you can get your hands on it!!!

Ladies Man by Katy Evans is LIVE!!!!

TAHOE ROTH.
Irreverent, cocky, playful and naughty.
He’s not the guy you date.
He’s the one night stand.
The one your mother warned you about.
The one your body craves.

You’d think the man who called me succulent would want to strip me down and spread me out on his bed—like he’s done with countless others.
But he passed on my offer….
Just like I’d once passed on his.
He’s wary, like I am.
He’s broken, like I am.
And everyone knows two broken parts can’t ever make a whole.
Tahoe and I are strictly friends.
So I distract myself with other men.
He doesn’t think my new man is good enough. This blond blue-eyed beast doesn’t think any man is—himself included.
But the more time we spend together, the more confused I feel.
I'm trying to open myself to love.
Yet I'm quickly realizing that the only man I want is Tahoe Roth.
The one man who will surely break my heart.

“No one is the way they seem. We all hide little pieces, either because we don’t want to be judged, or because we don’t think we’ll be understood, or simply because we don’t want those pieces to belong to anyone but us.”
Ever since I met Tahoe in Manwhore, I wanted a book for him. And seeing the connection and chemistry he had with Rachel’s best friend, Gina, I wanted that book to be with her. I was so happy to hear that it was happening. A Tahoe and Gina book! When it hit my kindle, I started it straight away. The sexual tension was at an all-time high, my emotions were a mess and this book made me smile, laugh, sad and ragey all at once. It was a friend to lovers story (which I love) and even though it is connected to the Manwhore series, it can most definitely be read as a standalone.

“I want to kiss you. I look at you, with those curves of yours and that wild hair and those dark eyes and that reluctant little smile, and I want to crush you against me, fill my hands with your hair and drown in your smell. And I want to kiss you.”

Gina has been friends with Tahoe Roth for a while now. She sees a side of him not everyone else sees. After being friends and being crazy attracted to him for the longest time, she goes for it. One night with Tahoe. BUT as much as Tahoe wants Gina- and you can tell he wants her bad… he doesn’t want to go there with her. Why? Because even though he’d do anything to have her, he doesn’t want to hurt her. I think deep down Tahoe’s intentions were good and I know he has a big heart, but dang…

There are definite moments of frustration in Gina and Tahoe’s story. Prepare yourself. Tahoe is one of this characters you love hard but will test you. Overall, I did love both of these characters and this story. Katy Evans is a woman who knows how to write and can captivate you with her stories. The love and the build up between these two characters were worth the wait. I loved that Evans made me have all these emotions- I’d rather feel strongly about something than have just a lackluster read any day. This is one book I won’t forget! I was enthralled from the start and I didn’t want to put it down.

If you’re looking for a truly wonderful friend to lovers story with damaged characters, lots of steam and sweet moments, this is one I recommend for you!

Something More Than This is a friends to lovers story. I love couples that start as friends first. They make my heart happy. Once again, Barbie brings us a light, sweet and funny story. This had a little angst and some steam, but overall was a feel good read!

Katy Lewis has a job she absolutely loves as a sports reporter for her local paper. She lives with her best friend, Mimi- who is a hoot, and has two older brothers who love her fiercely. Her editor and boss, Dylan Sterling is also a very close friend and has been for years. She is content with life. Then her childhood best friend, Conner comes back into the picture and wants to meet up with Katy.

Katy had feelings for Conner growing up. It’s safe to say, he was her first love. She’s not sure if seeing him for the first time in years will bring those feelings back. Meanwhile, in the office, Rachel is making a move for Dylan and it’s bringing other feelings for Katy. Jealously. She is jealous of Rachel. Dylan has always been a good friend to her, but there are other feelings there too. This is a bit of a stressful situation for Katy. Does she go for Conner? He’s here, it seems he’s interested… but there is Dylan who has always been there for her and seems to have had feelings for her too… I know it seems like this is a love triangle, but it really didn’t feel that way to me. And the guy I was rooting for actually got the girl for once so go me!

I want him. I want us. And I’m willing to face my fears to make it happen.

I thought Katy was a fantastic heroine and I really liked both of the guys in the story. Her man is super sweet and swoony and the one sex scene we got between them showed that their chemistry was off the charts! Honestly, this was a great read for me and I feel like it could have been an amazing 5-star read for me if there was more romance and we got more time with the couple together at the end! I was jonesing for more of their story.

If you’re looking for a sweet and enjoyable read that’s a friends to lovers story this is one I’d recommend! I’m hoping Barbie will give us a book about either one of Katy’s brothers!

Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Barbie
Bohrman
dreamed of becoming an author. Long after she had given up, a
book club’s prologue contest encouraged her to give it one more go. What
emerged were the beginnings of her debut novel, Promise Me. Now she’s living
her dream and writing stories that entice readers to escape and break away from
reality. When she’s not writing, you can find her trying to get through the
books on her Kindle (more than a thousand at last count) or watching Sherlock or Homeland.
She resides in New Jersey with her husband and two children.
