FRIDAY FIVE: Top Five Reads of February

 TOP FIVE READS OF FEBRUARY

Hey Babes! February was a great reading month for me! Even though I only had 2 five star reads out of the 25 I’ve read so far, I’ve read some really great and strong 4 star reads! Here are my top 5 favorite of the month. What was your favorite book you read in February?

Christy

5- A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR BY HELENA HUNTING

When I joined Seattle’s NHL expansion team, I thought it was the start of something great. But nothing ever goes the way you expect. Take my introduction to my new neighbor. She came rolling in on the hot mess express at midnight, making a racket while she tried to get into my team captain’s apartment. Did I mention that he’s married to a woman who definitely was not her?

Imagine my surprise when I end up with an injury that has me out of the game for weeks, and she’s the one to offer to help me. I should probably add that she’s not the captain’s mistress. She’s his sexy, pastel-haired younger sister.

So we come up with an arrangement: she rehabs me so that I can get back on the ice sooner, and she can add a professional athlete that isn’t her brother to her client list. Seems simple enough. As long as I can keep my hands to myself and my hormones in check.

4- WHEREVER YOU ARE BY KRISTA & BECCA RITCHIE

I WILL RUIN HER.

You know that old saying “opposites attract” — well, no one ever tells you what happens after the attraction part.

Do opposites stick together forever?

Or do they just self-combust?

And then there’s the third option: someone or something forces them apart.

Look, the third option isn’t happening to us. I will end the bastard who thinks he can keep me from her. I only need to worry about one thing. . .

Epic, soul-crushing self-destruction.
Because I screw up everything I touch.
Even her.

3- HEARTSTOPPER VOL 3

In this volume we’ll see the Heartstopper gang go on a school trip to Paris! Not only are Nick and Charlie navigating a new city, but also telling more people about their relationship AND learning more about the challenges each other are facing in private…

Meanwhile Tao and Elle will face their feelings for each other, Tara and Darcy share more about their relationship origin story, and the teachers supervising the trip seem… rather close…?

2-WILD AT HEART BY KA TUCKER

Calla Fletcher returns to Toronto a different person, struggling to find direction and still very much in love with the rugged bush pilot she left behind. When Jonah arrives on her doorstep with a proposition she can’t dismiss, she takes the leap and rushes back to Alaska to begin their exciting future together.

But Calla soon learns that even the best intentions can lead to broken promises, and that compromise comes with a hefty price—a log cabin in interior rural Alaska that feels as isolating as the western tundra.

With Jonah gone more than he’s home, one neighbor who insists on transforming her into a true Alaskan, and another who seems more likely to shoot her than come to her aid, Calla grapples with forging her own path. In a world with roaming wildlife that has her constantly watching over her shoulder and harsh conditions that stretch far beyond the cold, dark, winter months, just stepping outside her front door can be daunting.

This is not the future Calla had in mind, leaving her to fear that perhaps she is doomed to follow in her mother’s fleeing footsteps after all.

1- THE GUY IN THE MIDDLE BY KATE STEWART

I was born to play and bred to win.

My priorities were instilled in me early on—family and football. Those ideals led me to TGU and a coach whose ironclad principles mirrored my own.

With one last college season to play, my goal was singular—get drafted. By realizing my NFL dream, I could save my family, our ranch, and the only home I’d ever known.

Two birds, one ball.

Playing hard was my only option, but there’s always a wild card.

For all of my planning and hard work, I never anticipated falling for the coach's daughter. Harper was a fair catch, but who knew loving her could be the one play to throw my career before it started or that the weight of our secret would change the game.

4- Dylan & Riley: More Than Enough by Jay McLean

“There is no emotion greater than love.

FRIDAY FIVE: ALL THE FEELS

FRIDAY FIVE: ALL THE FEELS

My favorite kind of reads are the ones that make me cry… yes. I’m that kind of reader. I’ve read more tearjerkers that have given me all the feels than I can count, but here are the first 5 that come to mind that hit me right in the feels and brought me to tears more than once!

Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve done a Friday Five! Life has gotten in the way, but I’m going to *try* to be more consistent with them and do them at least every other week (if not every)!

Back to the topic at hand… what is your favorite ALL THE FEELS read? Any books that make you cry like a baby? Share below!

5- Full Tilt by Emma Scott

Kacey Dawson has always lived life on the edge--impulsively, sometimes recklessly. And now, as lead guitarist for a hot up-and-coming band, she is poised at the brink of fame and fortune. But she is torn between wanting to be a serious musician, and the demons that lure her down the glittering, but alcohol-soaked path of rock stardom. A wrecked concert in Las Vegas threatens to ruin her career entirely. She wakes up with the hangover from hell and no memory of the night before, or how she ended up on her limo driver’s couch...

Jonah Fletcher is running out of time. He knows his situation is hopeless, and he's vowed to make the most of the handful of months he has left to him. His plans include seeing the opening of his glass installation at a prestigious art gallery…they do not include falling in love with a wild, tempestuous rock musician who wound up passed out on his couch.

Jonah sees that Kacey is on a path to self-destruction. He lets her crash with him for a few days to dry out and get her head on straight. But neither of them expected the deep connection they felt, or how that connection could grow so fast from friendship into something more. Something deep and pure and life-changing…something as fragile as glass, that they both know will shatter in the end no matter how hard they try to hold on to it.

Full Tilt is a story about what it means to love with your whole heart, to sacrifice, to experience terrible grief and soaring joy. To live life with all its beauty, and all its pain, and in the end to be able to smile through tears and know you wouldn’t have changed a thing.

4- When it Rains by Lisa DeJong

One night changed my life forever.

Beau Bennett has been my best friend since I can remember. He was my first crush before everything came crashing down, and now he wants more, but it's more than I can give him. Things are different now. I wish I could tell him why, but I can't.

I haven’t told anyone.

I never knew how much I really needed him until the day he left for college, and I was completely alone.

Then one day, Asher Hunt rides into town with his dark, captivating eyes and cocky grin. He doesn't care who I used to be, he's simply breathing life into what’s left. People warn me to stay away from him, but he helps me forget the pain that has held me hostage for so long; something I thought was impossible before he walked into my life.

I’ve been hurt.

I’ve been saved.

And I’ve found hope.

I thought my story was written that night, but now I know it was only a new beginning. Until one secret turns my world upside down…

Again.

3- Loving Mr. Daniels by Brittainy C. Cherry

To Whom it May Concern,

It was easy to call us forbidden and harder to call us soulmates. Yet I believed we were both. Forbidden soulmates.

When I arrived to Edgewood, Wisconsin I didn’t plan to find him. I didn't plan to stumble into Joe's bar and have Daniel's music stir up my emotions. I had no clue that his voice would make my hurts forget their own sorrow. I had no idea that my happiness would remember its own bliss.

When I started senior year at my new school, I wasn’t prepared to call him Mr. Daniels, but sometimes life happens at the wrong time for all the right reasons.

Our love story wasn’t only about the physical connection.

It was about family. It was about loss. It was about being alive. It was silly. It was painful. It was mourning. It was laughter.

It was ours.

And for those reasons alone, I would never apologize for Loving Mr. Daniels

-Ashlyn Jennings

2- Left Drowning by Jessica Park

Weighted down by the loss of her parents, Blythe McGuire struggles to keep her head above water as she trudges through her last year at Matthews College. Then a chance meeting sends Blythe crashing into something she doesn’t expect—an undeniable attraction to a dark-haired senior named Chris Shepherd, whose past may be even more complicated than her own. As their relationship deepens, Chris pulls Blythe out of the stupor she’s been in since the night a fire took half her family. She begins to heal, and even, haltingly, to love this guy who helps her find new paths to pleasure and self-discovery. But as Blythe moves into calmer waters, she realizes Chris is the one still strangled by his family’s traumatic history. As dark currents threaten to pull him under, Blythe may be the only person who can keep him from drowning.

1- The Last Hour by Charles Sheehan Miles

Twenty-seven year old Carrie Thompson-Sherman has the life she always wanted: her PhD, a prestigious fellowship, and an amazing husband.

Her life begins to unravel as a jealous colleague puts her fellowship in jeopardy and a haunting secret Ray Sherman carried home from Afghanistan comes to light.

Hounded by a federal investigation and the ensuing media feeding frenzy, Carrie and Ray desperately lean on each other, until a disastrous accident puts both Ray and her sister's lives at risk.

In the last hour, Carrie and Ray will each find themselves faced with a choice.

A choice that will change everything.

CHRISTY'S 5 STAR REVIEW

   photo DCA64902-D1C5-41FA-8D72-F5667B44978D_zpsagz94qiu.png

Between Now and Always, I will Love him.

Between Now and Always is the epic conclusion to Dylan Allen’s Forever Trilogy. Seriously ya’ll, this was by far the best in the series and had such an amazing ending. I enjoyed the first two, but this book… this book I loved.

After finishing book 2 in this trilogy, I was nervous about what was going to happen. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how things would work out for this couple. There were some major revelations that were true game changers in the last book, and things seemed impossible for them. The thing I loved about this book the most was no matter how much time, distance, and trials, Beth never gave up. Carter was still her person and she found this strength within herself. These two love each other so fiercely, and even when the cards are stacked against them, they want to find a way.

“He’s….my best everything. Ever,” she says with a happy, matchlessly beautiful smile. My heart does that thing…that stumble, trip and fall that has always been its response to being near her. It doesn’t care that she’s my…whatever. It only knows that for me, she is love.

In the first two books, Carter was my favorite character in this trilogy… and even though I still love him, Beth is 100% the MVP of these books. Her growth is like nothing else and she’s so strong, empowering, and I couldn’t get enough of her. She’s a hero to so many and I couldn’t have loved her more. When she made her speech, I cried so hard. It was so beautiful and I’m so glad she found peace with herself and her life and is living as her true self. It’s such a stunning thing to witness.

This is one of those books that will grip you from the first page and never let go. I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen with Beth and Carter. Their romance is messy, difficult to read, and at times seems hopeless, but the kind of love they have… there’s power in that. I loved watching them persevere and against all odds find their way back to one another.

“That a woman like you loves me, even now, when I have no right to that love, has been my saving grace. I want the world to know, It’s you my heart calls queen. If you’ll have me, I don’t want anything more than I want you to be mine, too.”

This is a powerful love story. It’s angsty, addictive, romantic, and steamy. I love broken characters and stories of love overcoming all, this had all that in spades. The writing will keep you hooked and if you’re anything like me, this will keep you up reading way past your bedtime. My first 5 star of the year!
