LIVE: The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in…well, everything. Her identical twin sister Amy, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. Her meet-cute with her fiancĂ© is something out of a romantic comedy (gag) and she’s managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a series of Internet contests (double gag). Worst of all, she’s forcing Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the best man.

Olive braces herself to get through 24 hours of wedding hell before she can return to her comfortable, unlucky life. But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating bad shellfish, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. And now there’s an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs.

Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free vacation, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie she tells him is suddenly at risk to become a whole lot bigger. She and Ethan now have to pretend to be loving newlyweds, and her luck seems worse than ever. But the weird thing is that she doesn’t mind playing pretend. In fact, she feels kind of... lucky.

I expected this book to be a fun filled enemies to lovers story, and it completely met my expectations. This was a blast to read. I love the way Christina Lauren writes their stories, and this one had me smiling from ear to ear.

Olive Torres is an identical twin. Although they look just alike, her sister Ami is her opposite in so many ways. Ami is the lucky one. And Olive, well she has no luck at all.

Whereas Ami is a four-leaf clover, I have always been unlucky.
Ami is getting married and being the overachiever that she is, she’s devised a plan (along with a lot of luck) to get her wedding paid for. And it works out for her. So here is Olive, in a hideous bridesmaid dress having to tolerate her sworn enemy, the grooms brother, Ethan. It’s not her best day. But maybe her luck is beginning to change… I mean, her allergy to shellfish saves her from the serious food poising almost every person at the wedding gets.

Ami is so ill she can’t go on her own honeymoon. And since it’s a non-refundable free trip, she insists Olive pretends to be her and goes in her place. Ethan, who also missed the food poising due to his aversion to buffets is invited to go as well. So here Olive is. With Ethan. On an romantic, exclusive get away. You can tell where this is going, right? Yes. And it’s going to be so much fun!

I loved watching Ethan and Olive together. They seriously cracked me up. Olive is an endearing main character. Her luck was awful, but maybe at the end she really did end up being the lucky one. And Ethan. Ethan is hilarious, sweet, and completely misunderstood. Olive realizes that soon enough.

I find myself smiling in the direction of the living room, and realize that staying firmly on Team I Hate Ethan Thomas is going to be more work than it may be worth.
Where this was a fun rom-com, there were also a lot of obstacles this couple faced. It wasn’t all laughs and smiles. There was a bit of drama, a bit of angst, but overall it was hilarious, sweet, had the best banter, and I adored it! For all my friends that love a good enemies to lovers story and a book that will make you laugh out loud, pick this one up!!

Review: My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren

Christy's 4 star review:

   photo IMG_2314_zpsbg9qla8a.png

Christina Lauren are go to authors for me when I want to a fun and entertaining reading experience. They wrote my favorite book of the year (Josh & Hazel) so when this landed on my kindle, I jumped right in. Though this didn’t hit the same love buttons as J&H, I still really loved it and had loads of fun while reading!

Millie Morris is a professor who is fascinated by female serial killers. She hasn’t been in a relationship in a while, but she has 4 best friends who are all men. When something for work comes up and they all need dates, online dating gets brought up. Oh the shenanigans that this brings!

“There’s an entire language involved in these sorts of things.” “We have six degrees between the four of us.” Reid looks back down to his lunch. “I think we can keep up.” Chris leans in toward Ed. “What kind of language?” “Why do I already know this is going to be like teaching my mom to use the DVR?”

“At some point, if we kept going the way we were going, we’d all be seventy and doing crosswords together in Chris’s backyard.” “I mean, that doesn’t sound completely terrible,” I say.

I laughed out loud through so much of this! All of Millie’s friends have something about them that make them endearing. She’s close to them all, but there is Reid who is just a little more special. Millie and Reid have a connection and attraction, but the thought of ruining their friendship makes them pause. So they continue with the online dating. Things get complicated from there. I’ll let you figure out the little twists on your own, but I was glued to this one!

Millie is a fun character, and I loved all the boys. Seriously, there wasn’t anyone I didn’t love in this book. My Favorite Half-Night Stand is charming, fun, sexy, witty and lovable. If you are a fan of rom-coms, pick this one up. And for the love of all things holy, if you haven’t read Josh and Hazel’s Guide to not Dating drop everything and read it now!

Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating is LIVE! And a 5+ star FAVORITE!

Hazel Camille Bradford knows she’s a lot to take—and frankly, most men aren’t up to the challenge. If her army of pets and thrill for the absurd don’t send them running, her lack of filter means she’ll say exactly the wrong thing in a delicate moment. Their loss. She’s a good soul in search of honest fun.

Josh Im has known Hazel since college, where her zany playfulness proved completely incompatible with his mellow restraint. From the first night they met—when she gracelessly threw up on his shoes—to when she sent him an unintelligible email while in a post-surgical haze, Josh has always thought of Hazel more as a spectacle than a peer. But now, ten years later, after a cheating girlfriend has turned his life upside down, going out with Hazel is a breath of fresh air.

Not that Josh and Hazel date. At least, not each other. Because setting each other up on progressively terrible double blind dates means there’s nothing between them...right?

CHRISTY'S REVIEW:

5+ stars!!!

   photo IMG_1792_zpszzkxjtrl.png

I've read several of Christina Lauren books and I can say with the utmost confidence that this is their best book to date. It's by far my favorite of theirs. There wasn't one thing I didn't love about it. Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating is the epitome of opposites attract. It's one of the best friends to lovers story I've ever read and I loved it so much!! I have no doubt it will be one of my favorite reads of 2018.

Hazel Bradford is a bit of a weirdo, and I mean that in the best way possible. She knows she can be a lot to take, she gets it. She's fun, loud, a little crazy and a lot of amazing. When she meets Josh Im in college, she's got a bit of a crush, but Josh seems to be right there in the middle of all her embarrassing moments. Josh is very much the opposite of Hazel. He's mellow, cool, calm, and collective.

“I realize that finding the perfect person isn’t going to be easy for me because I’m a lot to take,” she says, “but I’m not going to change just so that I’m more datable.”

Fast forward years after college and Hazel becomes besties with a girl named Emily. She soon finds out that Emily is Josh Im's sister. Josh and Hazel are back in each other's lives and Hazel is determined that they become best friends. Josh is at a place where he could use a best friend, so even as different as these two are, they end up spending all their free time together and this unlikely pair just clicks.

I loved reading about these two together. They were perfect. You could feel the attraction under the surface, the friendship, and the love. They had so many adventures and crazy (non)dates with others that just made me laugh out loud. I think what I loved the most is that Josh loved Hazel for who she was, crazy and all. He never wanted her to change or calm down, he just accepted her. It was a beautiful thing.

I laughed and smiled so much while reading this book and it gave me the best heartwarming feels. This story was everything. These types of books aren't usually my favorites, as I lean towards books that are more heavy and emotional, but this one hit the spot for me. It was exactly what I wanted and I loved every single second.

As you can probably tell from my raving review, I highly recommend this book. I could not have loved it more if I wanted to. Hazel and Josh were both such endearing and fantastic characters and I loved their connection and chemistry. If you're looking for a book that will give you a permanent smile, one that will make your heart so happy it could burst, and just a completely lovable friends to lovers book, pick this one up. You won't regret it!

Beautiful Boss by Christina Lauren - Bella's 4.5 Star Review

Beautiful Boss (Beautiful Bastard, #4.5)Beautiful Boss by Christina Lauren

Bella's Review: 4.5 Plums!!

I love Will & Hannah!!

What I love about this book:
~ The writing. Christina Lauren - this combo writes so seamlessly and they just suck me into the story. It only takes a couple of paragraphs for me to forget I'm reading and just start living in the book's world.
~ Alternating POV - my favorite way to read!!
~ Chemistry ....As you know with any Christina Lauren book, you get smoking hot chemistry!!
~ But sweet too. Will and Hannah get married in this novella. They are hot for each other, but they are also sweet with each other too. And...they have to make some decisions about their lives. As with any marriage, there are issues. I love that this story embraced the fact that you have to make decisions together in a marriage. It isn't all rainbows and roses. But Will and Hannah do their thing and I loved every minute of it!!

What I didn't like:
~ I wanted to shake Hannah a bit for sort of sticking her head in the sand and leaving Will out of her important decisions and thoughts. Will made this story for me. But I think this provided the angst I needed to make this story more lifelike.

Bottom Line: READ THIS SERIES!!!

Love Christina Lauren - can't wait to read more of their work.
