'They say that every tragic hero has a fatal flaw, a secret sin, a tiny stitch sewn into his future since birth. And here I am. My sins are no longer secret. My flaws have never been more fatal. And I’ve never been closer to tragedy than I am now.
I am a man who loves, a man whose love demands much in return. I am a king, a king who was foolish enough to build a kingdom on the bones of the past. I am a husband and a lover and a soldier and a father and a president.
And I will survive this.
Long live the king.

Excerpt:

When I was twenty-two, I met a prince.  He seemed to be the exact opposite of everything I was—loud where I was quiet, smiling where I frowned, careless where I was careful, careful, careful.  Embry joined the Army because Vivienne Moore wanted her son to craft the perfect politician's resume.  I joined because it seemed like the place to continue my never-ending quest for honor; because becoming an officer in the Army had a certain cachet in my neighborhood; because I wanted to somehow cosmically return the favor for my college scholarship; because the structure and rigid hierarchy of military life appealed to me.

Most importantly, I joined because I knew Carpathia was the most dangerous place in the world at the time, and I felt needed there in a way I can't describe.  It was like a barometric pressure that made my bones and teeth ache when I tried to resist it.  I knew that I was supposed to be there in the same way I knew that God was real or that I was bisexual.  It was a fact, even if it couldn't be seen.

And after all that, then I see this lieutenant refuse to break up a fight?  When we were there on the brink of war and responsible for safekeeping innocents nearby?  No.  I wasn't an angry person, but I was a disciplined one, and the one thing I couldn't tolerate in other people was a lack of it.

I only meant to shake some sense into him, to tell him clearly and unmistakably that he wouldn't get away with that shit while I was around, but then he turned, and I saw his face for the first time.

And it was over.

Done.

One look at those winter-blue eyes and those delicate lips and I was finished.  One glance at his lean, long body, and I was falling.  Every part of me responded with heat and flush and wrenching want, like a hook had been fastened somewhere in my chest and was now giving an almighty tug, and the only thing to ease the ache would be to get closer, closer, closer.

I'd never seen a boy so beautiful.  Haughty as he was, overindulged and so obviously dissolute, he was the loveliest person, boy or girl, I'd ever seen.

I still pinned him against the wall, though.  And it was when I had him against the wall with my forearm on his throat and my body trapping his that he sealed his fate.  As I was choking him, he looked at me with his whole world in his eyes.

Bella's Review: 10,000 STARS!!!

I read a lot of books. I enjoy most of them - they're an entertaining way to pass the time. Most of them blend together and become a blur of, "Oh yeah, I liked that book," but I couldn't name the characters or anything that really happened in the story. They become forgettable.
But, once in a while, you find a book or an author that does more than entertain.

Sierra Simone is that author for me, and American King is a book I won't ever forget.

I was DYING to read this book and when it landed on my Kindle I had to force myself to pay attention at work and take care of my family when I got home. After mom duties were tended to, everyone in my house knew not to bother me.

I knew this book would be emotional - it's the conclusion to an epic trilogy and I had all kinds of expectations. Sometimes this works against me and it's easy to be disappointed when you have expectations.

Sierra Simone did not disappoint.

I was NOT prepared for what this book made me feel.
My stomach dropped.
My lungs collapsed.
The lump in my throat could not be ignored.
My tears could not be stopped.

I cried so damn hard, I couldn't see the words on the page. I needed breaks. I needed support from other people reading at the same time. I needed encouragement to keep going.

This book made me want to rage and scream and reach into the story to protect Ash, Embry and Greer from all bad things.

I don't want to spoil anything, so I'm not going to say a whole lot about plot. But here's what I loved most about this story:
It's complex and unpredictable.
It's smart and intricate.
It's filthy and kinky.
It's unforgettable.

American King is everything I want in a story. A filthy dirty tale of love between three people delivered with the most poignant prose imaginable.

I'm not going to lie. Reading this book...it hurts. But it's also exceptional.

Bottom line: if you haven't met Ash, Greer and Embry, what are you waiting for??? Start with American Queen.

Chris's Review: 5 STARS!!

I wouldn’t be complete without her, and neither would Embry. She was made to be my wife, and we were made to be a three.

I can’t remember the last time I stayed up all night reading a book. It’s been a while. I was a hot mess while reading this book. I cried, I raged, I cried some more, I texted my friend through the late hours of the night (thanks Bella) and I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH! Seriously, what an epic conclusion to this trilogy! It blew me away! My emotions were all over the place, but honestly, that is one of the reasons I love this series so much. It gives me all the feels I need while reading!

After the end of American Prince I was so thankful I didn’t have to wait to read American King. I don’t know how y'all did it. That ending was painful. I was so nervous and scared, but I powered through. There are so many secrets. The lies told, the twists and turns scattered through the story. There is no way I could have guessed a few of the shocking revelations. And I loved that it took me by surprise so much. I was up all hours of the night sobbing through this book. It was devastating at times, but don’t let that keep you from reading. The ending healed my heart completely.

“I told you before, I’ll always choose the pain.”

I feel like this is one of those series that will be unforgettable to me. I can’t imagine forgetting these characters or the way these books made me feel, ever. Ash, Greer, and Embry will have a special place in my heart. I can’t even tell you which character I loved most. They were a three and I loved them all equally. This book was truly exceptional. One of the things I loved most about this one in particular, is we got the perspective of Ash, Greer, and Embry. I loved hearing from all three of them in their final book. I think we, as readers, needed that. Especially the Ash POV.

American King is a stunning, emotional, erotic, powerful, and unconventional romance. It’s such a unique story and the writing is phenomenal. The characters are complex, the story is addictive, and I can’t recommend this series enough! Gah! Just READ IT!!!!!!

“I love you, and that will always be the end of our story.”
