Review: Roman by Sawyer Bennett

New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett steams up the ice all over again as the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team’s hottest bad boy gets his first taste of something good.

In a league full of troublemakers, Cold Fury defenseman Roman Sýkora stands out—at least when it comes to negative publicity. When he’s not chilling in the penalty box, the sizzling Czech skate demon is racking up tabloid headlines for his scandalous behavior with the ladies. But now Roman’s feeling the burn from management to clean up his act, or else. Luckily he’s got an enticing distraction: a fun-loving barista who plays the ukulele and brings out a side of Roman he didn’t know he had.

Lexi Robertson came to Raleigh, North Carolina, to finally meet her father, Brian Brannon, and her half sister, Gray, both of whom work in the Cold Fury’s front office. That’s where she first meets sexy, intimidating Roman—who’s really a big softie at heart. As one relationship takes off, another begins: Brian seems to be clicking with Lexi’s boss at the coffee shop. But when the friction between Roman and her new family heats up, Lexi wonders whether she’s a pawn in their game. Feeling hurt and foolish, Lexi’s ready to quit while she’s ahead. Trouble is, Roman’s not ready to quit on her.

Roman is the seventh book in Sawyer Bennett’s Cold Fury series. If you’ve read the first six, you know that the Brannon’s play a large role with the Cold Fury team. Brain Brannon and his daughter Gray (from Ryker’s book) run the show. They both have a big part in this story. In fact, this book is different from the others because it’s not just from Roman and Lexi’s POV. It’s from Roman, Lexi and Brian’s POV.

Lexi Robertson has recently moved to North Carolina. After losing her mother less than a year ago, she’s looking for the family she’s never known. That family being the Brannon’s. Brian Brannon never knew he had another daughter, but he is ready to get to know her. Gray on the other hand, is a little more hesitant. I actually really loved Brian’s chapters in the book. I thought it brought a lot to the family aspect of the story. Now to Roman and Lexi…

Roman is the bad boy of the Cold Fury. He gets negative publicity, he’s getting in trouble on the regular and constantly in the penalty box. He is not Gray’s favorite person. When Roman and Lexi meet, sparks fly. Although Roman isn't the type to really date or have girlfriends, Lexi is different. I loved the connection these two have. Lexi is probably the coolest girl in the Cold Fury series. Even though Roman wasn’t my favorite, I did like him a lot. The heroine stealing the show isn’t always a bad thing. It’s nice to get a kick ass lady every now and then ;)

Lexi’s different. So damn different in all the right ways, and I just didn’t realize women like her existed.

As I said before, I adored Lexi’s character and her relationship with Brian, plus his little side story. Roman’s growth made me love him much more. Gray was frustrating, but I could understand where she was coming from. Overall, this was a nice addition to the Cold Fury series. I can’t wait for the next one (Lucas) who is Max’s brother!
