When I'm With You by Harper Sloan: BLOG TOUR

SYNOPSIS:

Nate:
It’s nearly impossible to be surrounded by love but not understand it. My parents, my sister, and just about everyone around us has no trouble accepting that love. To give your trust to someone else and believe they would die before hurting you. I’ve witnessed it—I’ve seen the power of it—but I’ve also seen the pain. Because for me, I’ve only loved someone I could never have, and my biggest fear is that by giving her my love, all I would do is ruin her. I should have tried harder, but I’m not sure I can because I only feel complete when I’m with her.

Emberlyn:
The only time I feel like I belong is when he’s near. His infectious smile warms me straight to my bones. Any insecurities I have vanish with just a wink from him. A sliver of his attention makes me feel invincible. But all it took was one drunken night of truths for me to lose everything I had begun to crave. Now, I’m not sure how to move on because I only feel complete when I’m with him.

He said I was too young. I said he was perfect. He said our families wouldn’t understand. I said we could weather any storm. He said he would ruin me. And he was right.

CHRISTY'S 5 STAR REVIEW:

When I’m With You is the third book in Harper Sloan’s ‘Hope Town’ series. I always look forward to any new release by Harper, but I especially love her Corps security series. These books aren’t technically Corps books, but Nate is Axel and Izzy’s son and Emberlyn is Maddox and Emmy’s daughter, so we get so much of all the Corps family that we love so much. It makes me so happy to see all my favorite characters again. I love this series so hard so when this hit my kindle, I read it straight away. It didn’t disappoint!

Emberyln Locke may only be 20 years old, but she knows what she wants and does what she loves. She is a successful artist with a close family and friends she loves. Her life is pretty put together, all she’s missing is the love of a man. She has only been in love once, with a friend of the family, Nate Reid- but those feelings were unrequited and she’s not found it since. She still sees Nate all the time at family events but avoids him like the plague.

Nate Reid has always had it bad for Emberlyn Locke, but the timing has never been right. It was the hardest thing he’s ever done, turning her down when she confessed her feelings, but Emberlyn had just turned 18 and Nate is 6 years her senior. It wouldn’t have been right. Plus, his life wasn’t all together then. Now it is. Nate has just opened one of the most successful clubs around. Which Emberlyn ends up going to on her 21st birthday… Lets just say whenever I think of lollipops, I will think of Emberlyn and Nate.

Emberlyn fights her feelings for Nate, even when he pursues her. I get it, being hurt sucks and trusting someone when they’ve hurt you isn’t easy. But Nate is willing to do whatever it takes to earn Emberlyn’s heart and trust back…

I adored Nate. He was so much like his dad but was also very lighthearted with a great sense of humor. My favorite type of guy! Emberlyn was great, too. She had a big heart but was also fierce. Seeing Maddox as a dad of two grown women was also a treat. I loved all the scenes with him and his daughters, but also the ones with Maddox and Nate.

Harper has this formula when she writes these books. The books are all different, but this formula she has works. Her alphas are a little over the top at times, her heroines give them a run for their money (which I LOVE! No weak women here), and there is always a little drama and angst going on within the story. What I love best about these books is that drama isn’t relationship drama. Once these characters are together, things are solid.

When I’m With You brought the heat and the heart. I need that in my books. The heart. The love. The feels. This book hooked me from the start and I didn’t want to put it down. I smiled, I laughed, I loved. The writing had a great flow and the story was a solid 5 star for me. Highly recommend this book to all fans of the Hope Town and Corps Security Series. I’m sure this could be read as a stand alone, but you don’t want to miss out on all the greatness in the previous books!
