CHRISTY'S REVIEW

   photo 5EE1580F-F65F-46EF-BB63-CFB253D64B3D_zpsfebhnqxq.png

Wanderlove is the eighth book I’ve read of Rachel Blaufeld’s (you could say I’m a fan ;) and it’s one of my favorites she’s written. I loved Emerson and Price’s story!

Emerson Bender is eighteen and in NYC alone. She’s there for one thing and one thing only, to find her mom. Being raised by a single dad wasn’t bad, her dad is amazing, but she needs the closure that only finding her birth mother will bring her. New York City is a big place, and she’s not sure where to start, but luck would have her finding some leads.

Price Barnes is a country boy who was uprooted by his estranged father to the city for college. It’s not where he wants to be, but it was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. When he meets Emerson, it’s kismet. There really is no such thing as coincidences and these two meet and quickly start to fall for one another.

This was a bit of insta-love, but I didn’t even care. The romance between Emerson and Price was fast, but it was believable. I loved watching them fall in love, the growth they both had through the story, and the connection they shared. I felt like they had more in common then they even knew and it progressed their relationship that much faster.

Wanderlove was really sweet, but it also had it’s fair share of stressful and angsty moments. There were a few twists and turns I caught on to, and some that kept me guessing. This story focuses a lot on family. What makes a family, what’s important in love and life, and sometimes, you only need to find yourself to be complete.

Emerson is a character that had some growing up to do, and through the book, she did just that. I appreciated watching her change and grow as the story continued. Price was fantastic. My favorite character of the book (Emerson’s dad was a close second). I truly did love them together and the ending of this one was so perfect!

I enjoyed reading this one lots. The cover is absolutely stunning, the writing is great, and the story is sweet, angsty, and full of emotion. I recommend this for anyone looking for a good coming of age story/new adult read!!

Excerpt

Slouched in the back booth of one of those froufrou café places a little later, I pulled out a book and bit into my egg and turkey bacon on an English muffin.

Yes, you heard me right. 1. Egg. 2. Turkey bacon. 3. English muffin.

It was like one of those riddles on the SAT—which, by the way, I wished I hadn’t taken on a whim in high school, because it made this whole NYC bullshit that much easier.

Which two of the above three things does not belong?

If you answered numbers two and three, you win. Ding, ding, ding! Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Who the fuck ate turkey bacon? Not a soul where I came from. And an English muffin was a poor excuse for a biscuit.

Just as I sank my teeth into the last bite of nourishment—because turkey bacon couldn’t possibly be classified as delicious—someone took the table next to me.

Not one for coffee-shop talk, I took a swig of my OJ and lowered my face deeper into my book.

“Cannery Row? We read that in high school,” a female voice said, interrupting my quiet time.

“Hmm.” I nodded without looking up, desperately trying to maintain invisible boundaries.

The smell of fresh coffee filled my nostrils, making me think of my mom. She loved her morning coffee. Every day, she made a big pot and drink her first mug on the wraparound porch, sometimes wrapped in a flannel blanket.

“You okay?” Another interruption.

Looking up, I found the black-haired beauty who’d run into me earlier. “Yeah, why?” Slapping my worn book on the table, I suddenly had beef with the pixie extrovert.

“You were reading, and all of a sudden looked really sad. Sorry, I didn’t mean to pry. It’s just . . .”

I swallowed, wondering how the hell I looked sad, and then I remembered I was thinking of my mom. So I miss her. I’m no less of a man. It doesn’t make me a mama’s boy.

“I’m cool,” I said, rather than explaining the truth.

“We just saw each other.” She paused, obviously wanting to chat more, and I nodded.

“You go to school here?” I finally asked.

“No. It’s nice, though. I was just looking for someone in that building. Didn’t find her.” She whispered the last part to herself. Only listless for a second, she brightened back up. “Are you a grad student?”

“Ha,” I barked. “What? I look too old to play the part of undergrad?”

I was on the bench seat of my booth, my feet kicked out in front of me; she sat opposite me, on the chair side of her table. I wondered if her feet even touched the floor. Compared to my six-foot-two-inch frame, she’d barely hit my chest when we collided earlier.

“Um . . .” She looked away, pink rising in her cheeks.

Leaning forward, I ran my palm over my scruff, trying to remember when I last shaved. “Returning adult student is what I think they call it. School wasn’t really in my cards before, and now it is. So here I am.”

Sitting quietly, she didn’t respond, just raised her brows as if waiting for more of an explanation.

I didn’t give her anything more. My story wasn’t all that interesting, anyway.

CHRISTY'S REVIEW:

   photo IMG_2093_zpsw2znpis7.png

I've read several books by Rachel Blaufeld, and this is one of her best! I had such a good time reading this book. I didn't want to put it down. Honestly, it's the first book in a long time that I read in one sitting. Unputdownable, fun, sexy, and sweet- Hot for His Girl is a book you don't want to miss out on!

Andi was a failed mommy blogger when it was all the craze. It didn't work out for her, but she still needed a way to support her daughter. So, she decided to take a new spin on the blog. Andi is the snarky and sassy Unaffectionate Blogger. She's the girl you love to hate and hate to love, but under this blogging alias, she is a good person. She meets Reid randomly, but she knows who he is. Reid is also a blogger, but he doesn't blog anonymously- even if his work wishes he would.

Reid Fellows runs a fantastic blog called Grill and Groom. Where you guessed it, he grills shirtless and talks about men's grooming. Reid is also a college professor who's being pressured to make his blog anonymous or quit it all together. That's the last thing he wants to do. Reid's blog makes him happy. He doesn't know what he wants to do so he asks advice from the one blogger he thinks will give it to him straight and may be able to help. The Unaffectionate Blogger.

Reid and Andi's meetcute was adorable. I loved watching them get to know each other and I especially loved watching Reid with Andi's daughter, Gabby. So freaking sweet. Though this book was hella entertaining and fun, it kept me on the edge of my seat with the angst that was building up. I couldn't put it down, waiting for the other shoe to drop. I knew Reid was going to eventually find out who Andi was, I just didn't know when or how or if she would get to tell him first.

I love Rachel's emotional books, but Hot for His Girl shows readers she can write amazing rom-com as well. If you're looking a fantastically funny and all around great read, check out this book! I loved it!

Excerpt:

He’s tall, lean, and muscular in track pants and a long-sleeved tee underneath a glow-in-the-dark skeleton-adorned apron. Jet-black hair, mussed across his forehead. Even under the darkening sky, I can tell he has deep olive-toned skin. His eyes, I’m not quite sure. Maybe dark.

I feel my feet walking toward the object of my desire, but suddenly halt them.

Whoa, horsie.

For a second, my brain kicks in and I take stock of my disheveled appearance. This isn’t how I want to meet the man I’ve internet-stalked for a week. The man my brother-in-law wants to emulate, supposedly to win the heart of an overeager preschool teacher. The man who grills shirtless and does it oh-so-well. Just yesterday, he made rosemary-and-thyme veal chops. I don’t believe in eating veal, have never even tried it, and I was salivating over my laptop.

Reid, Grill and Groom, whatever his last name is, doesn’t hide behind the anonymity of his laptop. Nope, he’s right out on the wild, wild web for anyone to see.

This man is everything I’m not. He writes a successful blog, puts his name out there. And now he’s standing a few feet from me, joking with my daughter and her friend like he has nothing better to do and all the time in the world to do it.

“Mom! Can we have two?”

“Ms. Andi, this guy said we could have two big bars! Can we?”

“Hey there . . .”

Three voices call to me, but I’m stuck in Reidville, the small town that had only just begun to grow in my mind. Not the real, live man currently calling out, “Hey there,” to me.

“Mom!” Gabby shouts, finally dragging me out of a dense mental fog.

“Um, are you sure?” I holler from where I’m standing, because there’s no way in hell I’m allowing myself to move any closer to the door.

“It’s no prob. Evening’s almost over, and I don’t want to be stuck with all this leftover candy,” Reid yells back.

He’s tall. I’m guessing six foot two or three based on the way he towers over the girls and his head almost meets the top of the door frame.

“Make sure to say thanks,” I tell the girls, my voice squeaking, the stupid crumpled coffee cup dangling in my hand.

“Would you like one?”

Reid, Reid, Reid, just let me get out of here alive with my limbs attached and my lungs still pumping air in and out.

But no, he can’t. The girls sing, “Thank you,” and he’s following them out to me, candy basket in hand.

I fight the urge to sniff under my pits again, but I can’t seem to stop my free hand from smoothing down the front of my shirt and gathering my cardigan tight across my belly. It’s flatter than most, but still—I’ve had a baby.

“Would you like one? To go with your coffee?” He’s dead center now, right in front of me, wearing flip-flops despite the chilly nighttime air, holding the basket with his strong hands I’ve seen pictured on the blog, working the grill.

I’m not gonna lie. I’ve fantasized about those hands working me . . . just about everywhere. Okay, everywhere.

I admit it. I ended up perusing this guy’s site more than I care to say.

Green. His eyes are dark green, deep like the forest, clear like the sea, inviting like a patch of moss.

A frog settles in my throat, and I can’t make a sound for fear it will alas be a croak.

I shake my head and clear my throat, banishing the toad. “Tempting, but no thanks.”

“Actually, I really do have apples, if that’s more appealing.” He cocks an eyebrow at me, light from the rising moon twinkling in his eyes.

Reid, Reid, Reid, go back to your grill.
