Ex-con and ruthless biker, Jonas Brooks is stunned when he encounters the selfless angel who saved his life six years ago. With his massive size and alarming tattoos, Jonas terrifies people on sight. But the beautiful, kind, and intelligent Lucy Renquest sees beyond his frightening exterior the moment she lays eyes on him.

Despite being an outcast with an extremely high IQ, Lucy's confidence and courage propels her to success. Finding the good in people is her biggest strength—and greatest weakness. When Jonas cleverly deceives her into accompanying him to a secluded cabin in the alligator-infested Florida Everglades, she's beyond furious—until her anger fades and their passion ignites.

When Jonas and Lucy return to their normal lives, he discovers that she’s in danger. Now, it's up to Jonas to save the woman who saved him.

Can a criminal with a tarnished soul protect his angel and find the truth before it's too late?

Christy's 5 star review:

Beth Flynn never ceases to wow me with her twists, turns, and revelations in the books she writes. Tarnished Soul is Lucy and Jonah's story and if you've read some of the other Nine Minutes spin offs like me, you were super excited for their book. It didn't disappoint one bit! I loved this one. And don't worry, if you haven't read any of Flynn's previous books this can be read as a stand-alone.

Beth writes some of my favorite biker books because they don't feel like your typical MC books. They're so much more. Her stories are thought out and her characters are so well developed. These stories aren't centered around the typical MC culture and though the heroes are still rough and gritty (Jonah especially), they love their women something fierce.

Jonah and Lucy's love story was one of my favorites of the bunch. Lucy was relatable, smart, devoted and kind. Jonah had an incredible amount of growth. I loved how much he loved Lucy and even though he didn't do an unrealistic 180, he did make some changes for the better. I also loved seeing more of some of Beth's other characters in this one, Christy and Anthony, as well as a few others.

One of the best things about this book was the fact that it kept me guessing. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, there was something else that was revealed that I didn't pick up on. I love reading books like this. I read so many wonderful romances, but a lot of them are fairly predictable and it's nice to have that unexpected story thrown in there.

Tarnished Soul is a book I won't be forgetting any time soon. It was unputdownable, unpredictable, and a five star favorite for me!

Christy's 5 stars review:

001(56)

Fake is one of those books that left a smile on my face from start to finish. Such a sweet, fun, and feel good read. Honestly, there wasn't a thing I didn't love about this book. When I heard this was a fake dating/modern day Cinderella story I was here for it. I couldn't have loved it more

Norah is a waitress who occasionally waited on the famous action film star Patrick Walsh. When she overhears a conversation about his publicist trying to set him up with someone who can clean up his image, she's intrigued but minds her own business. Until Patrick brings her into said convo. Although he doesn't know Norah, he knows she's never asked him for a selfie or leaked his location and that's better than a lot of folks around Hollywood.

Norah is to play Patrick's down to earth girlfriend for the foreseeable future and will be well compensated. Neither one of them expect to become friends or for sparks to fly, but that seems to happen naturally between them. Norah was so relatable and genuine. You couldn't help but root for her and want her to have everything. She and Patrick seemed like they couldn't be more different, but they actually had more in common and wanted similar things for their life than one would guess.
“You’re being so difficult about it.”
“I’m the worst, it’s true.”
“Yeah, well . . .” He sighed. “I’d rather your worst than anyone else’s best.”

I loved watching these two turn from absolute strangers to close friends to so much more. I'm a sucker for a great friends to lovers romance and that was my favorite thing about this book. I also loved watching Norah with Patrick's family and friends and Patrick with Norah's gran. This whole book was just... gah! Low angst, lovable, and a new favorite!

As you can tell, I absolutely adored this book. If you're in the mood for a romance that will make you swoon, smile, and sweep you off your feet, pick up Fake!

Excerpt

CHAPTER ONE

He slunk into the restaurant mid-afternoon wearing his usual scowl. Ignoring the closed sign, he took a booth near the back. No one else was allowed to do this. Just him. Today’s wardrobe consisted of black jeans, Converse, and a button-down shirt. Doubtless designer. And the way those sleeves hugged his biceps . . . why, they should have been ashamed of themselves. I was this close to yelling “get a room.”

Instead, I asked, “The usual?”

Slumped down in the corner of the booth, he tipped his chin in reply. For such a tall guy, he sure went out of his way to try to hide.

I said no more. Words were neither welcomed nor wanted. Which was fine since (A) I was tired and (B) he tipped well for the peace and quiet.

Out back, Vinnie the cook was busy prepping for tonight, his knife making quick work of an onion.

“He’s here,” I said.

A smile split Vinnie’s face. He was a huge fan of the man’s action films. The ones he’d made before hitting it big time and taking on more serious dramatic roles. Him choosing to visit the restaurant every month or so made Vinnie’s life complete. Especially since the restaurant, Little Italy, was the very definition of a hole in the wall. Not somewhere generally frequented by the Hollywood elite. Meanwhile, I was less of a fan, but still a fan. You know.

“Get him his beer,” Vinnie ordered.

Like I didn’t know my job. Sheesh.

He was busy with his cell by the time I placed the Peroni in front of him. No glass. He drank straight from the bottle like an animal. Just then, a woman in a red sweater dress and tan five-inch-heel booties strode in through the front door.

“I’m sorry, we’re closed,” I said.

“I’m with him.” She headed straight for his booth and slid into the other side, giving the man a dour look. “You can’t just walk out, Patrick. You’re going to have to choose one of them.”

“Nope.” He took a pull from his beer. “They all sucked.”

“There had to be at least one that would do.”

“Not even a little.”

She sighed. “Keep this up and you’ll be obsolete by next week. Beyond help. Forgotten.”

“Go away, Angie.”

“Just another talented but trash male in Hollywood. That’s what they’re saying on social media.”

“I don’t give a shit.”

“Liar,” she drawled.

I wasn’t quite sure what to do. Obviously they knew each other, but he did not seem to want her here. And she really wasn’t supposed to be here. Vinnie had okayed after-hours entry to only one person. On the other hand, if I asked her to leave, she’d probably sic her lawyers on me. She looked the type.

The woman spied me hovering. “Get me a glass of red.”

“She’s not staying,” countermanded Patrick.

Angie didn’t move an inch. “They were all viable options. Pliant. Young. Pretty. Discreet. Nothing weird or kinky in their backgrounds.”

“That might have made them more interesting.”

“Interesting women is what got you into this mess.” The woman frowned, taking me in. Still hovering. One perfectly shaped brow rose in question. “Yes? Is there a problem?”

Now it was Patrick’s turn to sigh and give me a nod. He was so dreamy with his jaw and cheekbones and his everything. Real classic Hollywood handsome. Especially with his short light brown hair in artful disarray and a hint of stubble. Sometimes it was hard not to stare. Which is probably why his personality tended to scream “leave me alone.”

I headed for the small bar area at the back of the restaurant to fetch the wine like a good little waitress.

“We shouldn’t be discussing this here,” said Angie, giving the room a disdainful sniff. Talk about judgy. I thought the raw brick walls and chunky wood tables were cool. Give or take Vinnie’s collection of old black-and-white photos of Los Angeles freeways. Who knew what that was about?

Patrick slumped down even further. “I’m not going back there. I’m done with it.”

“This isn’t safe.” Angie looked around nervously. “Let’s—”

“We’re fine. I’ve been coming here for years.”

“You just got dropped from a big-budget film, Patrick,” she said, exasperation in her tone. “The industry may not find you bankable right now, but I’m sure gossip about you is still selling just fine. This week at least.”

5 star review: People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

Christy's 5 star review:

When I finished reading People We Meet on Vacation, all I could think is... I think I might have just read my favorite book of the year. Emily Henry wrote one of my favorite books of 2020, 'Beach Read', so I was a bit nervous about going into this one. I mean, what are the odds that she could do it again? Well, she did. I loved this just as much as 'Beach Read'.

Poppy and Alex meet their freshman year of college and become the most unlikely of friends. These two couldn't be more different. Alex is straight-laced, has plans to finish college, move home and eventually marry and start a family. Poppy is a bit of a free spirit, and wants to spend her years traveling the world. When they find out they're from the same town in Ohio and drive home together for summer break, they plan a trip together.

This summer trip turns into an annual thing and every year, no matter where they are in their lives, they take this trip together. This book is told in the present, but also goes back to many of those trips. This is one of the best friends to lovers/opposites attract books I've ever read. These two have such a connection, but the problem is, no matter how much these two care for each other, they both want a different things. Things that aren't necessarily easy to compromise on.
It hurts to want it all, so many things that can’t coexist within the same life.

What I loved about this book most is that as different as Poppy and Alex were, they both felt so relatable to me in different ways. Poppy was such a fun character and I loved watching her grow and find out what she wanted from her life. And Alex... buttery, warm, and perfect Alex. I couldn't have loved these two and their journey more.

And fun but random fact... these two are from a town in Ohio called 'Linfield' (which doesn't exist) but is about 40 minutes north of Cincinnati. I live in a town called Fairfield, 35 minutes north of Cincinnati and the next town north of me is Lindenwald. Put those two together and you get 'Linfield'... coincidence, I think not LOL.

Emily Henry writes some of the best romances out there. She is solidifying herself as one of my favorite authors with each new book she writes. The People We Meet on Vacation is such a special book. It's a story of friendship, family, love, and finding yourself and what you really want out of life. It was swoony, made me smile, and made me feel so much. I loved it to pieces and can't recommend it enough!
“Wherever you are, that’s where I belong. I’ll never belong anywhere like I belong with you. No matter what I’m feeling, I want you next to me. You’re home to me.”
