Synopsis: Ruthless People is a romantic crime fiction set in modern day Chicago, following the life and marriage of Melody Giovanni and Liam Callahan—rivals by blood and leaders through fear. Their marriage was arranged by their fathers in hopes to end years of bloodshed between the Irish and the Italians. Liam believes he’s getting a simple-minded wife, one he can control, one who bends to his every need . . . the complete opposite of Melody. She knows exactly what type of man he is, and she would rather die than give up the power she has spent her life building. To the outside world they look like American Royalty, but behind closed doors is a constant battle for dominance. The Mafia of the past has evolved, and with rival bosses gunning for them, Melody and Liam will have to learn to work as one to take down all those who stand in their way.

MELODY

When I finally came back up for air, there he was, the object of all my anger, rage, and lust sitting poolside in a fresh suit with a bandage over his leg—a leg that was resting on my pool chair. Rising out of the water, I reached for my towel while his eyes raked over my body.
“See something you like?” I asked, squeezing the cold water from my hair.
He frowned. “Sadly, yes, but it’s an illusion. The moment you get close, it turns into a ruthless savage and shoots you in the thigh with your own gun.”
“If I turned into a ruthless savage, it was only because another ruthless savage stepped into my arena. If you came for an apology, look elsewhere. Now, get the fuck up,” I said.
Glaring, he got up. The moment I sat down, he grabbed my hand and I saw in his eyes that he felt whatever spark it was that coursed through us. He leaned in, catching my gaze in his own. He stopped just inches from my face before I heard a click near my wrist. Looking down, I saw that he had handcuffed my wrist and my ankle to the chair.
“After that display earlier, I believe you need a time out.” He chuckled, kissing my forehead like I was some pet or child. “You were swimming so long you missed dinner, so I did you a favor and brought you some.” He pointed to the dish that was only attainable with my free hand. “I will come to get you in the morning.”
“What makes you think I can’t pick a lock you son of a bitch?” I sneered, pulling on the damn handcuffs.
“I filled the locks with cement. You can’t pick it love, believe me, I’ve used them before,” he said, brushing the side of my face. “If you ever hold a weapon to me again, Melody, I will handcuff you fucking upside down and underwater.”
He kissed me again, this time on the mouth, and with my free hand, I slapped him across the fucking face. His head snapped to the side before he turned back to me and winked.

Review:

Holy hell what a ride!! A friend on goodreads got to read an early copy of Ruthless People and posted her review. Thanks SueBee for the heads up! Her review was amazing and sold me instantly. Then a blogger friend of mine tagged me in a post on Facebook and said "OMG I just read a book and it's amazing, you have to read it, it's called Ruthless People by J.J. McAvoy." So there was person number 2 who read and loved it. So I went to facebook and twitter and followed this new author my friends were raving about.

J.J. followed me back on twitter and informed me there was a blog tour. I signed up immediately!!! Once I got the covered ARC I dived in. Have you ever seen the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith? It's like a mix of that and the sopranos. I am astounded at this storyline. It seriously blew me away.

This story is about 2 families fighting to be on top. They sign a contract that when it's time for Sedric to step down they would join families by his son Liam marrying the other boss' daughter Melody. Liam was concerned how this new wife would handle him being a murderer and drug dealer. But boy, did he get a surprise!

Melody just happened to be the exact same as him. Only difference was she had already been ruling her families business. She was THE BOSS! Liam's first encounter got him shot in the leg.(haha). Liam didn't know how to handle that information, so they fought for the reins.

Every character in this book intrigued me. Liam's family the most though. They are the mob family, they will do anything to protect them. Melody has been alone for so long that it's hard for her to open up and care for somebody other than herself. She has had her right hand man and woman, but no family besides her father.

The fight between these 2 was great to watch especially when they decided they had enough people trying to kill them that they needed to ban together. And oh boy...once that happened the sparks fly!!

This book I'm sure will get some readers underwear in a bunch. If you don't like drug, sex, murder, and a whole lot of cursing...this book isn't for you. And if you do..grab this amazing story and take a walk on the wild side. You won't regret it!
