Review: The Play by Elle Kennedy

What I learned after last year’s distractions cost my hockey team our entire season? No more screwing up. No more screwing, period. As the new team captain, I need a new philosophy: hockey and school now, women later. Which means that I, Hunter Davenport, am officially going celibate…no matter how hard that makes things.
But there’s nothing in the rulebook that says I can’t be friends with a woman. And I won’t lie—my new classmate Demi Davis is one cool chick. Her smart mouth is hot as hell, and so is the rest of her, but the fact that she’s got a boyfriend eliminates the temptation to touch her.
Except three months into our friendship, Demi is single and looking for a rebound.
And she’s making a play for me.
Avoiding her is impossible. We’re paired up on a yearlong school project, but I’m confident I can resist her. We’d never work, anyway. Our backgrounds are too different, our goals aren’t aligned, and her parents hate my guts.
Hooking up is a very bad idea. Now I just have to convince my body—and my heart.

CHRISTY'S REVIEW
   photo IMG_4782_zpszrg8zv3d.png

The Play is the third book in Elle Kennedy’s Briar U series. These books keep getting better and better. I’ve liked each one more than the last and this is my favorite so far!

Hunter Davenport is now that captain of his college hockey team, and he’s taking that responsibility seriously. Last year, his sleeping around was a part in them losing their season, and he’s bound and determined not to let that happen again. So he’s been celibate. He’s set on keeping his hands to himself and even though it’s difficult, he’s keeping his promise to himself.

Then he meets Demi. Demi and Hunter become partners for a psych project and they click. Hunter and Demi become fast friends and Hunter is relieved to know that Demi has a boyfriend she’s devoted to. It makes keeping his hands off of her that much easier. Then the boyfriend screws up and they break up… and Demi wants a rebound. She wants Hunter. And she’s hard to resist.

I loved the push and pull between Demi and Hunter, as well as their fabulous banter. These two had such chemistry and such a great relationship, even before they were technically in one. I loved their friendship just as much as I loved the romance. I also really loved getting to see so many characters from Elle’s Off-Campus series. I love them so much!

Sports romance is my favorite (hockey especially) and I love a good friends to lovers read. This one was dang near perfect for me and it I was completely captivated while reading. Elle Kennedy’s writing is always great and this book was too much fun! I laughed more than once and loved it! I hope this isn’t the last Briar U book, I’m dying for Conor to get his own story!!

REVIEW: The Chase by Elle Kennedy!

THE CHASE
(Briar U, Book 1)

Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.
And that his best friend has a crush on me.
And that I just moved in with them.
Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?
I suppose it doesn’t matter. Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing?
He knows where to find me.

CHRISTY'S REVIEW:
   photo IMG_1818_zpscf5yaf5j.png

Elle Kennedy is one of my favorite new adult authors, so when I saw she was coming out with a new series, I couldn't wait. I was especially excited when I heard the hero would be Fitzy- AKA Collin Fitzgerald. Fitzy is a character from her Off-Campus series, but it's not necessary to read those first (even though you should because they're EPIC).

Summer Heyward-Di Laurentis is Dean's little sister. She's beyond wealthy and is starting a new school. Briar. Due to some unfortunate choices she made at her last school, she is in need of some roommates last minute. Luckily, her big brother Dean has some friends from his hockey team she can room with. Unlucky- one of them is Fitzy, the guy she's had a crush on since the first moment she met him.

Fitzy is short for Colin Fitzgerald, and he just happens to be THE UNICORN. The tall, sexy, tattooed, hockey-playing unicorn of a man who I might have a teeny-weeny itsy-bitsy crush on. Okay, fine. A big motherfucking crush on. He’s so…magical.

Fitzy is not Summer's normal type. He's a hockey player covered in tattoos who spends all his free time on art and video games. Though he is insanely attracted to Summer, he's not sure about her. He knows her type. The rich, gorgeous and full of 'fluff' and drama type. But here is the thing about Summer- she may be rich and beautiful, but she is so much more that that. Surprisingly enough for me, Summer was my favorite part of this book.

As much as I loved Fitzy, there were moments I wanted to throttle him. He really irked me, especially the first half or so of the book.  I hated how he made it seem like everything about Summer was drama, when that wasn't the case. I was so freaking happy when he started to truly see her for the woman she was, I just wish it wouldn't have taken him so long!

I love hockey books and new adult books, and not many authors write either as good as Elle Kennedy. This book was fun, sweet, sexy, and emotional. Exactly how I like them! I'm not sure whose book is next in this series, and I don't really care to be honest. I can't wait to read it no matter who it's about! Bring on more Briar U books!

Surprise Announcement - Good Boy by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy are bringing us a new series!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Boy, Wags #1
Hosting her brother’s wedding for an MVP guest list is the challenge of Jess Canning’s life. Already the family screw-up, she can’t afford to fail. And nobody (nobody!) can learn of the colossal mistake she made with the best man during a weak moment last spring. It was wrong, and there will not be a repeat. Absolutely not. Even if he is the sexiest thing on two legs.

Blake Riley sees the wedding as fate’s gift to him. Jess is the maid of honor and he’s the best man? Let the games begin. So what if he’s facing a little (fine, a lot) of resistance? He just needs to convince the stubborn blonde that he’s really a good boy with a bad rap. Luckily, every professional hockey player knows that you’ve got to make an effort if you want to score.

But Jess has more pressing issues to deal with than sexy-times with a giant man-child. Such as: Will the ceremony start on time, even though someone got grandma drunk? Does glitter ever belong at a wedding? And is it wrong to murder the best man?

Warning: Do not read while sipping hot liquids. Or cold ones. Or while sitting anywhere laughter would be inappropriate. Contains hot but hilarious hockey players, puppies and a snarky pair of underwear.

Addicted by Elle Kennedy

Addicted by Elle Kennedy

From the New York Times bestselling author of Claimed comes the second enticingly erotic novel set in a world on the brink of chaos.

Lennox used to live in a paradise on earth with his best friend Jamie, in a place where visitors came and went, allowing their desires to run free. But everything changes when a deadly attack forces them to take up with Connor Mackenzie’s band of Outlaws. Lennox knows Jamie is hung up on someone else, but he’s always believed he’s the man for her—and won’t let her go without a fight.

Even though Jamie is well aware that Lennox is one hot specimen of a man, she refuses to let sex ruin the most important relationship in her life. But when the object of her interest spurns her, she indulges in a little pleasure-filled revenge with her very magnetic, very willing best friend. One thrilling night with Lennox is enough to awaken Jamie’s unexpected desires for him. And now that she’s had a taste, she’s not sure she can ever give him up...

Bella's Review: 4 "Smutopia" Stars!!

I LOVE Elle Kennedy's writing.

Addicted is a standalone novel but the second in the Outlaw's series.

Let me tell you - this book is erotica. I saw the term "smutopia" in and I love this term. A dystopian society book where public sex is the new norm, thus everyone has sex with everyone and it's usually on display. It's also a friends to lovers story.

This book has so much sex. And every possible combination (woot!)

So.
Much.
Sex.

It's really hot and I must warn you that you may need a change of panties while reading this book. Or easy access to your partner.

Lennox and Jaime have been friends forever, but they have never had sex with each other - this is surprising to me with all of the partnering and sex that happens in this post apocalyptic society. Never the less, their friendship is solid and they are protective of each other, but competitive with each other, too. I loved watching these characters confront their feelings and find their way to each other.

I get a bit lost with all of the details about the new society. There are enforcers and they are running from the enforcers - constantly looking over their shoulders which I think gives daily life a different perspective. The alliances with other people living on the fringe of society. The fact that they still have condoms (how is this??). But I tended to not think too much about these details and skim the parts that my brain got caught up in.

Bottom line: entertaining, sexy, addictive, dystopian story from Elle Kennedy. I'm dying for the next book - Ruled!!

First book in the Series: Claimed

The bestselling author of the Killer Instincts novels “knows how to write scorching sexual tension” (USA Today). Now she really sets it on fire in a new series about men and women living on the edge of violence, sex, and life and death.

After a devastating war decimated most of the world, Hudson Lane has only known the oppressive life under her own father’s tyranny. She finally escapes, branding herself an outlaw and hunted by the Enforcers. Her best chance at survival is Connor Mackenzie, an aggressively sensual fugitive who opens her eyes to the wicked possibilities of a world without rules.

As the leader of a band of outlaw fighters, Connor can’t resist the beautiful stranger who asks for his protection. Despite his reservations, he agrees to introduce her to a whole new way of life. But when Connor discovers Hudson’s connection to the enemies of liberty, he wonders how far he can trust the woman who has abandoned all inhibitions to challenge every forbidden desire.

Can your favorite hockey players finish their first season together undefeated?

Five months in, NHL forward Ryan Wesley is having a record-breaking rookie season. He's living his dream of playing pro hockey and coming home every night to the man he loves–Jamie Canning, his longtime best friend turned boyfriend. There's just one problem: the most important relationship of his life is one he needs to keep hidden, or else face a media storm that will eclipse his success on the ice.

Jamie loves Wes. He really, truly does. But hiding sucks. It's not the life Jamie envisioned for himself, and the strain of keeping their secret is taking its toll. It doesn't help that his new job isn't going as smoothly as he'd hoped, but he knows he can power through it as long as he has Wes. At least apartment 10B is their retreat, where they can always be themselves.

Or can they? When Wes's nosiest teammate moves in upstairs, the threads of their carefully woven lie begin to unravel. With the outside world determined to take its best shot at them, can Wes and Jamie develop major-league relationship skills on the fly?

Warning: contains sexual situations, a vibrating chair, long-distance sexytimes, and proof that hockey players look hot in any shade of green.

Excerpt

At long last, I’m twenty paces away, then ten. Then I’m opening our door. “Hey babe!” I call out like I always do. “I made it.” I drag my duffel over the threshold, then toss my suit coat on top, abandoning these things beside the door, because all I need now is a kiss.
Only then do I notice that our apartment smells amazing. Jamie has cooked dinner for me. Again. He is the perfect man, I swear to God.
“Hey!” he calls, emerging from the hallway leading to our bedroom. He’s wearing jeans and nothing else except—and this is unusual—a beard. “Do I know you?” He gives me a sexy smile.
“I was going to ask the same thing.” I’m staring at the sandy-blond beard. Jamie has always been clean-shaven. I mean—we’ve known each other since before facial hair. He looks different. Older, maybe.
And hot as blazes. Seriously, I can’t wait to feel that beard against my face, and maybe my balls… Jesus. The blood is already rushing south, and I’ve been home fifteen seconds.
And yet I’m just stuck there in the middle of the room for a moment, because even though it’s been eight months since Jamie and I started up together, I’m still a little stunned at my own good fortune. “Hi,” I say again, stupidly.
He walks forward, his easy gait so familiar that my heart breaks a little bit. He puts his hands on my traps and squeezes the muscle there. “Don’t go away for so long. If you do that again, I’m going to have to sneak into your hotel room on the road.”
“Promise?” I ask, and it comes out like gravel. He’s close enough now that I can smell the ocean scent of his shampoo and the beer he drank while he waited for me.
“If I ever get a winning lottery ticket and a day off, I’ll do it,” he says. “Hotel sex after a game? Sounds hot.”
Now I’m measuring the distance to our sofa and counting the layers of clothes I’ll need to remove in the next ninety seconds.

Bella's 5 Star Review
I just spent the entire day with Jamie and Wes.

I didn't think I could love them any more than I did when I read Him. Jamie's road of self discovery was so fun to read about in that book.

Us brings us on their journey of being a couple during Wes's rookie season in the NHL. Wes wants to prove that he is a good hockey player before he becomes the poster child for gay hockey players. He asks Jamie for just 1 season before they come out. So they are in the closet. Living together.

This is so much harder than they thought it would be.

My heart. Oh my heart had a work out during this book. While Him was a light, fun, sexy read, this book (while also funny and sexy) definitely pulled on my heart strings more. I wanted to dive in and protect my boys from all the stupid people in the world.

Things I loved about this book:
~ The writing. It always amazes me when two authors write a book. It seems like it might be choppy or that you could tell where one author left off and the other began. But Elle and Sarina have it down. I love each author's writing and together it's just magic. I will read any book they write. Individual. Separate. Whatever.
~ Unpredictable plot. I thought I knew what was going to happen but they threw a couple of curve balls at me. I really appreciate it when authors do that. I read so much that sometimes books tend to blur in my mind. But I won't confuse Wes and Jamie's story with any one else!!
~Wes and Jamie. These two main characters are so easy to fall in love with.
~ The banter. The texting. The skyping. The chemistry. GAH!
~ Secondary characters. I LOVE Blake. At first I was so totally annoyed by him popping in and ruining the ONE place that Wes and Jamie can show each other affection. But, you just can't help but love him. And his mother, for that matter. She was hilarious at the games with her choice of words. LOL.
~ Jamie's family. I love his mom. Just love her. I just want to hug her. I'm so glad Wes and Jamie have Jamie's family to support them.
~ The ending!!!!! I love the ending. I'm so proud of these boys. I love watching them grow throughout the book and become better people.

Things I did not love about this book:
nothing. I can't think of one thing I would change about it!!!

Bottom line: READ THIS BOOK!!! But start with Him!!!

Reanell's Review

5+++++ STARS!

O.M.G. This shot up to the top ranks with books I LOVE! The absolute amazing journey we are taken on with Us is beyond BEAUTIFUL. Jamie and Wes are a couple that you automatically root for. They DESERVE to be together and they deserve to be happy. I don't think Sarina and Elle couldn't have written a more beautiful story than they did with Us.

And they introduced a new character who I fell madly for. BLAKE RILEY!! Even with this book being about Jamie and Wes' journey....Blake MADE this book. He stole the show for me!! I NEED more Blake in my life. Seriously he needs his own book.

My favorite parts of the book were Wes and Jamie's texts. #HowHardIsIt. Gah!! I loved every single time they sent pictures back and forth.

If you haven't read the first book Him yet, go grab it now and follow this amazing couple who wormed their way into my heart.
