BUNS by Alice Clayton! My 4 star review!

Christy's 4 star review!

It’s sticky, it’s messy, it’s sweet, it’s Buns.

Alice Clayton is the queen of romantic comedies. The best part about them though? They aren’t just slap stick funny reads, they have heart and emotion as well. I’ve enjoyed every book from her Hudson Valley series, and Buns was no exception! It was sweet, funny, sexy, and had just the right amount of feels!

Meet Clara and Archie…

“You really are a pain in the ass,”
he said, his breath fogging up the space—the very little space—between us.
“You’re the only person who’s ever told me that.”
“I find that incredibly hard to believe.”

Clara has a job where she travels to a new hotel or resort every few months to turn it around. Some of these hotels just need some little tweaks, some need bigger tweaks, but they just need some TLC and expert advice from Clara herself. Archie Bryant is the owner of The Bryant Mountain House and if you ask him, his fifth generation resort doesn’t need anything different. The resort’s books tell a different story. To say that there was a rub between these two in the beginning would be an understatement.

These two were hilarious together. I loved the back and forth and bickering. And you could tell there was attraction and sexual chemistry right under the surface, just waiting to explode. I loved the light moments, but I truly loved getting in deeper with Clara and Archie. Both of these characters had a lot of depth and pasts that were difficult in different ways.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to let someone help you when you’ve spent a lifetime making sure people know you don’t need them?

As much as I loved getting to know Clara and Archie, I also loved getting to see Roxie, Leo, Natalie, and Oscar again. Plus all the other fun characters in Bailey Falls! I sincerely hope this isn’t the last book in the Hudson Valley! The town and characters are so charming- I would love to read more!

If you’re looking for an engaging and entertaining read, pick up Buns!

Cream of the Crop by Alice Clayton

Christy's 4 star review:

Alice Clayton brings her signature laugh out loud funny and sexy stories and her charming characters once again with Cream of the Crop. It’s book 2 in the Hudson Valley series, and although it can be read as a stand alone, I highly recommend picking up Nuts if you haven’t read it. Be ready to fall in love with these characters and the town, Bailey Falls.

Natalie Grayson is a city girl. She was born that way. Manhattan is her home. She’s an executive at an advertisement firm and she loves her job, her life, and herself. Natalie goes to the Farmer’s Market each weekend. The best part of her Saturday is getting her Brie from Oscar Mendoza, dairy farmer from Bailey Falls Creamery. Oscar and Natalie don’t communicate much, but it’s obvious an attraction is there. When Natalie gets an opportunity to go to Bailey Falls, where Oscar is from, for work, she jumps on it.

The thing I love most about Natalie is her self confidence. She knows who she is, she loves herself, and she doesn’t care what others think. She is someone relatable and a heroine I could easily see myself being friends with.

Natalie is a city girl. Oscar is a country guy. They are so different in so many ways, but those differences don’t matter when it comes to matters of the heart. When they say ‘opposites attract’, I think Natalie and Oscar were two characters they had in mind. I loved watching Natalie fall in love and take a chance on love again.

I knew I was falling for him in a big way. Whole heart, full butterflies, threatening to burst out of my chest and skywrite my feelings for all the world to see.

As I said before, this story was fantastically funny. I had so much love for Natalie, it was steamy, entertaining and sweet. So why not 5 stars? Well, as much as I loved the story and Natalie, I had some trouble connecting to Oscar. There were moments he aggravated me and overall I didn’t love him as much as I wanted to throughout the story. There were parts of him I did love, but then there were moments I was too disconnected to him. He seemed aloof and withdrawn through parts of the story and it didn’t jive as well with me. I know he’s a reserved kind of guy, and maybe it was just me, but I wanted a little more ‘something’ from his character.

Overall, I loved this story. I loved the positive body image message. I loved Natalie so much and Clayton’s writing is fun and sassy as always. If you’re looking for a read with an amazing heroine and one that will keep you entertained, Cream of the Crop is a book I would recommend!

5 stars for NUTS by Alice Clayton!!!

Nuts (Hudson Valley, #1)Nuts by Alice Clayton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 ‘Sugar Snap’ stars!

Spending the summer back home just got a little more interesting.

Nuts by Alice Clayton is a refreshingly fun romantic comedy. Sometimes when I’m reading I’ll think ‘This would make a perfect movie.’ I could easily see this book on the big screen. It was sweet, funny, smart and sassy.

Roxie is a chef to the stars in LA. She loves her job, it’s exactly what she wants to be doing. When her mom calls her with a request to run the family’s diner for the summer, Roxie does it, even though it’s the last thing she wants to do. Her first week there, she runs into a man who makes her look twice. Roxie knows there is something special about Leo, but the thing is, she doesn’t do love.

Roxie is also not planning on staying in this small New York town forever. Leo is a farmer in her town, and isn’t planning on going anywhere. They have the summer together. When they’re together, sparks fly. Their chemistry is palpable. You can tell when their attraction starts to shift into something more. Something that scares Roxie. Her plan is and has always been to help her mom out, run the diner for the summer, then go back to California. Now things are changing. She’s got all kinds of small town ideas. She sees possibilities. Is this change in her life something she’s willing to risk? Or is going back to California the path she’ll take…

Roxie is a character I think most of us can relate to. She struggles with doing what she wants to do with her life and following her dreams. When her dreams become something she least expected, it takes her a minute to embrace that change. Change can be scary, but it can also be a great thing. Leo is a great man. As much as I love both characters separately, together is where they really shine. Leo and Roxie together are a hoot. Clayton always writes the most naturally funny characters. No one is trying too hard, there is no slap stick humor, it’s just all around genuinely funny.

Alice Clayton’s writing style is always fun and fantastic. After reading Wallbanger, I had such high expectations I felt as though nothing she's written since really lived up to that book… Until I read Nuts. This is my new favorite book by her. It made me laugh, it made me smile, and just left me in an all around good mood. If you’re looking for a fun book with a feisty heroine, great hero and a charming storyline, pick this one up!
