Christy's Review:

4 stars!

You’re the Only One is first and foremost a story of friendship. Dillon and Sky are the type of friends that are more like family. They love each other, but that love changes and grows as the story goes on. If you enjoy a good friends to lovers story, this is one you need to grab asap!

Dillon and Sky become neighbors when they’re kids. Their moms become best friends, and it works out to where they become best friends as well. They have each others backs through it all. No one is more important to Sky than Dillon and vice-versa. After high school, they both decide to move to NYC. Dillon is a musician and Sky is into fashion. They’re chasing their dreams sand navigating life together.

I loved the friendship between Dillon and Sky. I even loved the romance. The feelings they had were real and genuine. Both characters were lovable and I thought the writing was fantastic. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was (view spoiler)

One thing I really loved about this book was the familial story line. I loved both of the moms and the relationships they had with them. I also really loved Sky and Dillon’s other BFF’s. There was a lot to love about this story and overall, it was a great read for me.

“All of this feels like a dream sometimes, doesn’t it?” “Isn’t that why we moved to New York? To chase our dreams?” Sky smiled. “Yeah, I guess we’re finally starting to catch them.”

You’re the Only One is a beautifully written friends to lovers romance that is sweet, sexy, and has a good bit of angst. As I said earlier, it’s more than just a romance. It’s a story of friendship, of family, of sacrifice and unconditional love. I smiled, I cried, at times I laughed out loud. I enjoyed this book a lot and would definitely recommend.

Love was my weakness.
In the light of the truth, no one can hide.

Derek had ignited a spark inside of my heart, a hope for a love I never expected to find. However, our connection lacked the substance it needed to burn. Weakened with resentment, our relationship crumbled under deception, slowly dissolving into ash.

I had sacrificed myself for him and paid the price.

By the time Brandon entered into my life, the longing in my heart had turned cold. But fate was not done with me. His crystal blue eyes and fluid touch revived a wish that had been frozen in time. He gave me hope once again.

Hope is a dangerous thing, especially when you dare to dream.

CHRISTY'S 5 STAR REVIEW:

   photo F95BDC6C-6A55-4FCC-BC79-73DFD3BB93B6_zpsuelmgoie.jpg

E.M. Abel has this special quality to her writing that not many authors have. I absolutely love her style. Liquid & Ash is a book that hit me right in the feels. The thing I loved most about this story was not the romance, not the sexy times, but the growth. Penelope’s character is one that all women can relate to at one point or another. Her journey and the direction she took was refreshing. The entire story was refreshing. It’s not the same old romance story and that is something I think most readers will appreciate.

I hardly recognized myself anymore. I’d been lost somewhere along the way, and I hated this new woman I’d become.

Penelope is at a crossroads in her life right now. She was once a dedicated student who had her hopes set on being a nurse. Then she fell in love with Derek. She devoted her life to him and when things crumbled, she had to find herself again and get back to the root of what she wanted in life.

She never expected someone like Brandon to come along when her life was in ruins. Brandon is someone who Penny can be herself with. Not the person she became after being with Derek so long.

This story is not just a romance. Its focus is not on Brandon and Penelope (at least, it wasn’t for me). This is a story of strength and perseverance. It’s a story about one woman’s growth, rediscovery and her journey of finding her own path again.

“No promises. No pretending.”

With Brandon, Penny knew the score. Or at least, she thought she did. They had a much different relationship than she ever had with Derek. The feelings were different. Brandon is a character that took some time to grow on me. Penelope was very much my favorite character. After some time, I did love them together and I rooted for them both to get what they needed for themselves and as a couple.

When Brandon looked into my eyes, he saw me, not the woman he wanted me to be.

“It’s always meant something. You’ve always meant something to me.”

This book had a few moments that shook me to my core. It was truly painful at a point- the betrayal felt so real and raw. Everyone knows I love a book that can give me the feels. And this book did just that. I loved that I felt such a connection to the main character. The story was fantastic and the writing was top notch as always. I highlighted so much!

E.M. Abel’s Liquid & Ash is an emotional, original, stunning and truly unforgettable read. 5 stars!
