Maybe after enjoying our weekend together, Chris had realized he liked sex with men a little too much. Maybe he wasn’t as comfortable with his sexual fluidity as I’d assumed.

Or maybe it hadn’t been as good for him as I’d thought . . . Nah.

Before my eyes, Chris draped an arm around Jace’s shoulders, which was like the fucking bat signal. I usually kept my distance until I knew it was safe to move in. Even when I wasn’t trying to be, I could come off pushy and domineering as all hell, and the last thing I wanted was to scare Chris off.

Since the night we’d spent together, I hadn’t been able to get him out of my head. Jace either. We’d talked about it after weeks and weeks of us courting Chris via text, because neither of us could deny that this wasn’t typical. Not by a longshot.

Emma Scott slays me with her words. I mean, just when I think I can’t love her books more, she writes this gem. Forever Right Now is a stunning, heartfelt, and unforgettable story.

Although Forever Right Now is a stand-alone, you meet Darlene as one of Beckett’s best friends in The Butterfly Project. As it was one of my favorite books this year, I was dying for this book since the moment I heard it was being written. Darlene is a character who is easy to love, at least she was for me. She’s been through a lot, but that only means that she’s overcome a lot as well. She still has a ways to go, but she’s strong and has a lot of fight in her, and I appreciate that in a heroine.

Darlene is starting fresh in a new city. She’s made the move from NYC to San Francisco and doesn’t know a soul, but is ready for this opportunity. She’s ready to move on with her life, to dance again, and to truly find herself.

Sawyer Haas is a single dad and a law student getting ready to take the bar. He’s overworked, stressed out, but seriously an amazing person. I can’t sing Sawyer’s praises enough. This man. Sigh. He touched my heart. On a personal level, I appreciated the type of man he was so much due to my own life experiences. I can’t imagine anyone reading this book and not falling in love with him.

 

“I’m supposed to be getting myself together and not getting swept up in all the things I usually get swept up in. I keep saying I need to work on me, but I’m doing everything right and I still feel like something’s missing.” Her eyes were impossibly blue as they gazed up at mine. “Is it you?”

As for Sawyer and Darlene, they don’t hit it off right at first. Sawyer is a little standoffish to his new neighbor at the beginning. He's not one that gets close to new people, but the more he gets to know Darlene, the more he likes her and can’t keep his mind off of her. I loved Sawyer and Darlene’s connection. Both were fighting their own battles, but with time, they realized they did have a partner to fight with and completely had each other’s backs. And Olivia… every scene with her and Sawyer, or her and Darlene… I melted. It was just so fantastic.

Forever Right Now isn’t just a stunning romance, it’s also a tale of self-discovery, finding trust, learning to love others and love yourself. It shows that everything isn’t black and white, sometimes the law isn’t cut and dry. I appreciated that Emma tackled some hard topics in this story with both of the main characters. It made me love the book that much more.

Emma Scott is one of my all-time favorite authors for a reason. She writes books like THIS. That is the reason.  She’s a magnificent story teller, her characters are always well-developed, and her writing is brilliant. I can’t recommend all of her books enough! I know I, for one, can’t get enough of her unique and special stories! Forever Right Now is an out-standing story, it’s truly phenomenal and will be going on my top favorites list this year!!! It’s a MUST READ and highly recommended by yours truly!

 "Who are you?" he demanded rudely, shifting the diaper bag higher on his shoulder while hoisting his little girl in his other arm. He was six feet of hotness in a rumpled suit, glaring at me with suspicion in his dark eyes. 

"I...I'm your new neighbor?" It sounded more like a question; as if I needed this guy's permission to live. I straightened to my full height. "I just moved in upstairs. I'm a dancer. Well, I was. Had to take some time off but I'm going to get back into it soon...ish." I put on my friendliest smile. "I'm a massage therapist now. Just got my license and..."

My words died under Sawyer's withering stare. 

"A dancer. Fantastic," he said bitterly. "Just what I always wanted. Someone leaping and thumping above me, waking my kid up and disturbing my studies at all hours of the night."

I planted my hands on my hips. "I can't dance in a dinky apartment, and besides..."

Words failed me again as the sharp planes and hard angles of Sawyer's face melted when his daughter--I guessed her to be about a year old--suddenly clapped her small hand over his chin. Sawyer's hard gaze softened, and his broad mouth turned up in a smile--a beautiful smile I was sure only his little girl ever got to see, and so full of love that for a moment I could hardly breathe.
