Mara Black Pieces of Autumn promo

Today we have a promotional post for Pieces of Autumn by  Mara Black. I am a sucker for dark romances and am really excited to read this one! Here is some of Mara's favorite quotes from Pieces of Autumn.

My Three Favorite Quotes from Pieces of Autumn

I’d like to tell you that I love all of my quotes equally, but it’s simply not true. I gotta play favorites. There are some moments in Pieces of Autumn that I enjoy more than others, so I thought I’d share them. But, shhh...don’t tell the rest of the scenes. They get jealous.

He laughed, ringing out loud and harsh in the room.

“You’re wrong,” he said, his voice low and rough. Dripping sex. “Compassion isn’t what you crave.”

This is my favorite dark romance trope. He knows what she wants, more than she does. Because it’s oh so wrong. The nice guys never get this, but the oh-so-bad boys definitely do.

The pain is a constant thing.

It’s not emotional. It is a deep and physical ache, lodged in my chest where no surgeon could ever hope to find it. It’s as real as a snake bite or a broken leg. It is not the sting of a whip or the heavy thud of a bat against my ribs, although I still have a twinge when I breathe in deep.

If all the broken things from my past were like vicious shards, embedded deep, an ache I’d grown used to - didn’t know how to live without -

Then Autumn was like a paper cut. Sharp and bright and sudden. Unexpected. Hurting more than it had any right to.

Tate’s point of view is relatively rare in the story, but this is one of my favorite moments. He’s essentially admitting that he’s in love with her. Because she’s different. Maybe the only thing he’s capable of feeling right now is pain, but at least she’s a new kind of pain.

“You’re pathetic.”

My tone was vicious. He stared at me, his eyes widening slightly.

“It’s all bullshit,” I shouted. His eyes flashed with anger, but he didn’t move. “You’re hiding behind a mask. You want absolution, but you can’t face what you did. So your way of forgiving yourself is to decide that you can’t help it. This is just who you are. But it doesn’t work, does it? Because you know it’s not true. You know you can do better. You’re just afraid to.”

Every romance needs a moment where the characters finally cut to the heart of the matter, and say what we’ve all been thinking. This one was personally cathartic for me, and I think it’s something that a lot of people do - not just Tate. It’s always easier to wallow. To keep doing what you’re accustomed to doing. What Tate’s doing is not sustainable, and it’s Autumn who dares to tell him so.

“Lena, you seen my old black Led Zep shirt?”

“You sure?” His brows became one dark cranky line. The scratches on his face were healing well, thank goodness. Though it didn’t reduce my desire to throttle his mother on a daily basis.

“Yes. I haven’t seen it.”

Can’t find it anywhere…”

“And this is a surprise, how?” I slipped my hands into my back jean’s pockets. “Jimmy, you own more clothing than Cher, Brittney, and Elvis, put together. Things are bound to go missing.”

“Sure you haven’t seen it?”

“For goodness sake, what do you think, Jimmy? That I stole it to sleep in or something?” I laughed bitterly. Sure as hell, the truth deserved a good mocking. I’d sunk so despicably low.

I hadn’t even meant to steal the stupid thing, but the shirt had been mixed up with my laundry a few days ago. It’d been the first top I laid my hand on after stepping out of the shower, ready to go to bed. Without thought, I’d put it on and it’d been so soft, the scent of him lingering beneath the laundry detergent. Every night since, I’d found myself in it come bedtime. My shame knew no limits. And no, I still hadn’t quit. The words still hadn’t come even close to leaving my mouth.

He frowned. “No.”

“That I have some deep secret longing to feel close to you resulting in my stealing your shirt like
some creepy perv?”

“Course I don’t fucking think that,” he replied crankily, reaching up to grip the top of the doorframe. All of his bulging muscles stretched the arms of his white T-shirt in the nicest way. It was all I could do not to start drooling, my heart beat taking up residence somewhere down between my thighs. And who could blame it? Not me. Maybe if I got laid, this would go away and things would return to normal. It’d seemed safer to avoid rubbing up against any men just in case I got carried away and started dating again. This new situation, however, changed everything.

“Well, of course not! That would be crazy.” And wasn’t that the god’s honest truth? Cray-zeee. Lock me up and throw away the key because it wasn’t like I didn’t know better.

“Just can’t figure out where the hell it could be.”

Angels couldn’t have smiled as innocently. They might have tried, but they would have failed, the dirty-mouthed, winged, little liars. “Jimmy, I don’t know where it is. But I’ll look around for it later, okay?”

“Yeah,” he said, and then added as an afterthought, “and stop looking at me weird.”

“I’m not!”

Release Day Launch for Beautifully Forgotten by L.A. Fiore

Title: Beautifully Forgotten
Series: Beautifully Damaged #2
Author: L.A. Fiore
 Release Date: July 29, 2014

Successful restaurateur Lucien Black’s blue-green eyes and unattainable attitude drive women wild. But his abandonment issues and criminal past have left him emotionally closed off. When a familiar face shows up for a job interview at his nightclub, the ache he has tried to forget tears at his heart—it’s the girl who once healed him…and then abandoned him.
Darcy MacBride still remembers Lucien’s delicate touch when they were both wildly in love teenagers. His gorgeous eyes had soothed her hurt after she’d been dumped off at the orphanage where Lucien lived. Darcy felt his jagged edges fit perfectly into her own, and she’d planned to spend the rest of her life with him—until a mysterious man warned her away. Now, fourteen years later, she’s ready to endure the torture of Lucien’s indifference and having him as her boss…just to be near him. But when it seems that they might finally take up where they left off, a devastating secret buried in their past threatens to tear them apart again.

L.A. Fiore’s story of smoldering love recaptures the tormented romance of Beautifully Damaged.

I absolutely adored this book. 5 stars does not do it justice! I didn't expect anythig less from L.A. Fiore. I fell in love with her writing style with Beautifully Damaged.

So with Beautifully Forgotten we get Lucien's story. I was very curious about him with BD and I'm so glad she is giving him his own story. We also get Trace and Ember. I was so excited to get more of those two.
This story completely blew me away. After I was finished, I sat there thinking...I did not expect that roller coaster ride of emotions at all!

Darcy and Lucien's story is so heart-wrenching. I can't give any specific details because I don't want to ruin the story but just know what these two amazing people went through in their life is astounding. And after you get the complete story, your heart will be full of love for these characters.

I love the mystery aspect to the story. I had no idea where the story was leading and was thrown for a loop several times. L.A. Fiore knows how to write a story to keep you on your toes with excitement and angst. I will read anything she writes and will scream at everyone to go get their copy!

Lucien watched as Darcy struggled to get the printer working. Even from his distance he could hear the cursing, which made him smile. It had been a week since their relationship had taken a very pleasant turn. She was still just as feisty as he remembered and it wasn’t hard for him to recall why he had fallen for her in the first place. Their sparring was verbal foreplay and he fucking craved it. His eyes moved over her. Her body was nothing like the one he had known, with curves that his hands itched to touch. Her hair was up, though he preferred it down, and tendrils were falling out of the twist. He remembered vividly the sight of it spread out over his pillow.

He had to admit that she was still just as interesting to him as she had been at fourteen. Despite everything, she was still his Darcy—sweet, witty, and guileless, except at the moment. She looked about ready to torch the printer, so he moved to help her. As he approached, she was actually staring into the paper tray, yelling at the creatures that lived inside it.

He chuckled, which must have taken her by surprise, because she leaped backward and landed on his foot.

“Fuck!” he cursed.

He looked down at her strappy sandals with heels high enough to stake a vampire and had a vision of those legs draped over his shoulders. Instantly, he was hard.

“I was going to offer to help you. The printer can be temperamental, but now I’m bleeding out from a stab wound.”

She didn’t miss a beat. “It probably didn’t even break the skin. What is it you guys say? Rub some dirt into it.”

He eyed her shoes. “Those things should be listed as lethal weapons.”

“Hardly. There are far cheaper ways to kill someone.” She bent to stare into the printer again and Lucien took the opportunity to check out the curve of her ass in the little black skirt she wore.

“Stop checking out my ass and help me.”

Not at all repentant for getting caught staring, he replied easily, “It’s a paper jam.”

He thought he was being helpful and when she straightened slowly, he entertained the notion that she was struggling with the need to throw herself into his arms in gratitude.

One look at her face, though, and he knew he wasn’t going to be copping a feel.

“Your powers of deduction are astounding. Seriously, you should give a seminar on mastering the obvious.”

He tried not to laugh, but he lost that battle. And she responded by flaying a layer of skin off him with her sharp tongue.

“I know it’s a paper jam, Sherlock, I just can’t find it.”

“It’s usually in the back,” Lucien said as he reached for the back of the printer, his arm brushing up against her on purpose. Darcy’s inhaled breath in response had his balls tightening. He dislodged the paper and pulled it free.

He turned to her with a smug smile, which she returned with uncanny accuracy before she said, “Thanks. I almost lost my cool.”

A slight smile touched her lips. “I should go restart my print job.”

“Probably, unless you can get the little men in the printer to do it.”

She laughed. “Not the baked goods, the little mischievous mystical creatures.”

“They live in my printer?”

“Maybe.” She started away, but stopped and turned to him.“Thanks.”

“Have dinner with me tonight.”

She eyed him through her lashes before she said, “You’re on.”

And then she turned and disappeared into her office.

Without Hesitation by CJ Azevedo blog tour

At eleven years old, Macie James was certain she saw her prince standing in her kitchen with his rosy cheeks and cute smile. She was going to marry that boy, she had no doubt about it. As she became a teenager, it was that boy who taught her how to become a confident and sure woman. As the years went by and they grew up, he taught her how to love and to be loved.
Greyden Michaels was surprised when he fell for his best friend’s little sister. He wasn’t opposed to it and, even more surprising, neither was his best friend. When he was in college and her just in high school, he realized they were too young to be committed, he opted for friendship with her and together they decided their love was for the future.

When you hesitate, life happens. When life happens, your plans change. Macie wanted her fairy tale and Greyden was prepared to give it to her when unfortunate events changed his whole life, including his future with the UFC and, most devastatingly, with her. Macie made the decision to live her life, to move on without Greyden, especially once she met the man who wanted to marry her and give her the life he couldn’t.

The problem with that was that Greyden had always seen her as his. Could he give her up completely for her supposed happiness or could he somehow manage to get his life in order to try and win her back, heart and soul?“I can’t make you mine right now, Macie.” He sounded dejected.

“I know,” she whispered across his lips, this time pressing her mouth against his.

“I don’t trust anybody else with you,” he said as she deepened the kiss a little more, but he wasn’t letting her fully in.

She licked his top lip and a small groan came out against his wishes. “I know, Sugar Plum.” She kissed just his bottom lip; being the only participant in the kiss was becoming challenging.

Greyden laughed. “Noooo.” He gripped her face, stopping her ministrations. She scrunched up her nose at him. “Macie, remember our plans?”

She nodded. How could she forget? They had a future together, just not a present.

He tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear. “I promise to keep my mouth shut if you want to date, if you promise to date guys your own age and to be smart.”

Macie’s shoulders sagged in disappointment. That’s not where she was hoping he was going to go with that. “Grey, I don’t—”

“Butterfly,” he slides a finger to her lips effectively shushing her, “I wish I could be that guy for you right now, but I can’t. I know that others can’t either, but apparently you’re going to have to figure that one out on your own. That’s why I ask that you wait ‘til you’re eighteen for the major stuff. Because, Butterfly…God. Macie James, you’re not the girl guys screw around with. You’re the girl guys marry. You’re the girl I’m going to marry.”

Macie gasped in complete shock at his words. Stunned speechless. What does one say to that anyway?

Thankfully, she didn’t have to think too long. Greyden slid off the truck, coming in close contact along her body, not letting her back up. He leaned down, his lips hovering over hers momentarily, just barely brushing them before pressing the sweetest kiss to her hyper aware lips. His lips were soft and warm and Macie wanted to pull him even closer than he already was and open up to him, but that’s not the kind of kiss he was giving her. No, he was giving her a kiss of a promise, a promise of a future, of a friendship and of a love that will only bloom with time, that’s what this kiss was. It was kind of heartbreaking on her end. It may be what he wanted and needed right now, but he just told her he was going to marry her, yet she couldn’t really kiss him, or have him.

4 stars!

I am a huge fan of CJ's work and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one! Macie is Declan's little sister, who we met in book 2 of the Without Series. Each of Declan's best friends feel like Macie is their sister too, except for Greyson. Greyson has never felt the sister bond with her. He is always looking out for her, but it's different from the way the others look out for her. Macie falls head over heals in love with him early on, and Greyson falls for her too. But their age difference causes them to take things really slow.

Macie saves herself for Greyson and when they finally take that plunge they are explosive together. Then something terrible happens and it causes Greyson to re-think his relationship with her. He decides that he's not in the right frame of mind and needs to get a handle of his life before he can commit to her. <-----this 5="" able="" and="" any="" asking="" being="" couldn="" felt="" finally="" find="" font="" for="" give="" happiness="" happy="" he="" her="" him="" i="" in="" is="" longer="" nbsp="" needed="" one="" out="" selfish="" she="" slept="" stars.="" stood="" t="" this="" to="" told="" too.="" up="" very="" wait="" wanted.="" was="" wasn="" went="" when="" while="" whoever="" why="" with="">

Without Hesitation is told in alternating past and present tense.  Writing in this style can keep the readers guessing at what happens, but I felt like it went to far with this story. It continues all the way through the story and I felt once she got so far, it could have just continued on in the present. It doesn't affect my rating because it didn't interfere with the storyline, just could have been enhanced without so much switching.

When Macie finally moves on its with somebody she grew up but didn't pay much attention to. She soon finds out that he had a crush on her all throughout school and can't wait to start their life together. I don't think I've ever disliked a character as much as I did him. Especially when something terrible happens and he does something that makes me want to do horrible, horrible things to him. This makes Greyson realize his mistakes and wants to make up to Macie, but will it be too late?

Without Hesitation is beautifully written with so much emotion put into the words that you feel them for days after finishing. Some parts of this story had my heart aching for the characters. I can't wait to see what else CJ has in store for us in the future!

Red & Wolfe Exclusive Excerpt!!!

Exclusive Excerpt!

“Red?” I push her gown down a little further and close my mouth over her breast, working her nipple with my lips.Caressing it with my tongue. I’m rewarded by a soft moan that goes straight to my cock. I need to be inside her, despite knowing I don’t have the time.
I pull the covers down and slide my hand up her shin, then up her thigh. She’s warm from sleep. Her skin feels like burnished velvet. My fingers brush her pussy and she lifts her hips. She wants it. I love the way she always wants it.
I love the way she says my name: a mew.
“I’m going to fuck you with my fingers,” I say, leaning near her face. “Then you’ll go to sleep again.”
A dreamy smile floats over her lips. She nods a little, pressing her head into the pillow.
I slide a finger into her. She’s hot and tight, softer than silk. I can feel her clench as I pump into her. She’s wet this morning. So fucking slick. I stroke in and out, painting her pussy, using my fingertip to smooth warm lines around her swollen clit.
I’m rewarded by her crying out.
“Say my name.”
I still my hand. I can hear my blood rush in my ears. Race. Say Race.
Her hands grab at my wrist. “Race.”
I allow myself a brief grin. It’s undiluted satisfaction. She knows—or at least suspects—I’m James Wolfe, but she’s still in my bed.
“Say ‘Race, please.’ I like to hear you beg.” I push another finger into her. Her body quivers.
“I like to feel you jump.”
I stretch her with a third finger and slide my thumb over her clit. I’m moving slow. So slow.
“Race, oh God—yes. Please.”

“That’s right, sweetheart.”

I look up at him, and I can’t even talk, because I’m lost again. I don’t know how it’s possible that this happened. That I feel so attached so someone I’ve known such a short amount of time. I don’t know how it’s possible that I can’t stay.
Tears fill my eyes, and I blink them away. Race runs his hand over my hair.
“You’re a good girl, baby. So good. You deserve nothing but the best.” He kisses my cheek, so chaste and soft it makes me shiver.
My throat’s so tight, it’s hard to say, I liked being your fuck doll.”
“I would keep you if I could. Fill you with my cock all day and night. Punish that sweet ass. Red, I’m leaving here. Don’t wait for me to find you. I won’t. Don’t come back for a while. Let things settle. Try to find a way to settle, too.” He rubs his thumb down my cheek, looks into my eyes. “What do you love, Red?
I swallow. I can think of only one thing. “Writing.”
“So write. Write anything you want, baby.”
I swallow past the huge lump in my throat and shake my head. “I don’t want to write. I just want you.”
He steps back a little, still holding my hand. “I don’t deserve you, baby doll.”
“Yes you do. Of course you do. You always do.”
