Catch Me by Claire Contreras
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
5 Musical Stars!
Catch Me is an emotional, beautifully written story that will have you laughing, crying and swooning. This book captivated me from the beginning and I couldn’t stop reading. A terrific blend of drama, angst, sexy and sweet with a leading guy that will make you melt!
Brooklyn appears to have it all. She owns her own company where she successfully custom makes microphones, she also recruits musicians for her father’s large record company, Harmon Records. She has an eye (or ear) for it, and she’s good at what she does. Brooklyn has a past. Rewind eight years... The one person in Brooklyn’s life who has always been there for her, always had her back no matter what is gone. Ryan was more than her best friend. Losing him, well, it puts her world in a tailspin. She doesn’t know where to turn or what to do and she makes some questionable decisions.
Luckily, with a little hope and a little help, she straightens herself out. Brooklyn has a good life in LA, but her father needs her in NY to help with recruiting new musicians. She decided to go, stay with her brother Hendrix for a while. While there, she runs into her ex boyfriend/hook up and current friend, Shea. Shea is a musician. He is hot, sweet, and really cares for Brooklyn. But he’s not the guy for her. Shea introduces her to his new producer, Nick Wilde. She and Nick meet, and Brooklyn feels something she’s never felt before.
I don't know what it is about him that makes me want to grab his face in place so that he'll never look at anything but me. I'm not sure what bothers me more: the realization or the fact I can't remember feeling this way about anyone before him.
You could just feel the sparks between Nick and Brooklyn. They had amazing chemistry, but it was a slow burn between the two. Lots of build up and sexual tension. They spend a lot of time together, it’s clear Nick wants Brooklyn. He wants her to be his and only his. Brooklyn’s not sure if she’s ready for something like that. She’s never been in that kind of relationship, something real, something serious. It’s scary for her.
Nick Nick Nick... I just loved Nick dearly! He was soooo swoony! Seriously, this guy was just amazing! He was patient with Brooklyn, sweet and supportive of her. But he also had a bit of an alpha male side. You can tell how much he truly cares for his beautifully broken girl. He was also very funny. And when he stood up to her mom... (view spoiler)["She seems to think that running off and leaving me heartbroken is a good idea, so I decided that I'm going to take her home with me every single day to remind her that my heart beats only for her. That my day starts with her running through my mind and ends with her sleeping in my arms." (hide spoiler)]
it was amazing! Then there is the song... the song just made me melt.
Brooklyn was also a fantastic character. She had been through a lot, but she was strong and determined. Not only are the two main characters great, there is a slue of secondary characters that I fell in love with! One in particular is Shea. I felt for him. Though there was one scene he royally pissed me off, I still adored his character! Brooklyn’s brother Hendrix, and her cousin Nina were both great as well.
Watching Brooklyn be able to open up, and seeing her and Nick’s relationship develop was a beautiful thing. He really was exactly the type of person she needed in her life.
This was an engaging and beautiful love story about finding yourself, healing, and always having hope. The writing was superb, there were a few little twists and turns that kept things interesting, and off the charts swoon and romance. Claire Contreas is one of those authors that has a way with words. All of her books just hook me, and I can’t put them down. She makes you really feel her characters, along with all sorts of emotions! A worthy 5 star read that I would highly recommend!

In the past, I've always been given everything I've wanted, but nothing that I truly needed. I've experienced a lot of things in my twenty-five years, everything except the one thing I want. It's the one thing that can’t be bought. It can't even be taken, it has to be given. And nobody has ever given it to me, not really anyway.
Not until him.
Music is the center of both our lives, but as he found his place in it, I lost my way. He soared, while I spiraled down a destructive path.
I lost myself in more ways than I can count.
The ironic thing is that I didn’t realize how lost I was until he found me.
And now that he has, I have to wonder if he'll stay around long enough to catch me.
Claire Contreras graduated with her BA in Psychology from Florida International University. She lives in Miami, Florida with her husband, two little boys, and three dogs.
Her favorite past times are: daydreaming, writing, and reading.
She has been described as a random, sarcastic, crazy girl with no filter.
Life is short, and it’s more bitter than sweet, so she tries to smile as often as her face allows. She enjoys stories with happy endings, because life is full of way too many unhappy ones or ones that will scare the daylights out of her and have her looking over her shoulder at every turn. Like I said, she's very random.
